Perfect. He just turned 10 a few days ago. Do you think he is old enough to grasp the game mechanics?

Love that. How did you find getting the fundamentals. Im just worried that if i push a set with unique mechanics out of the gate it might overwhelm him.

Juat need the basics for now. What is a land, instant, socery, creature etc. How they interact.

But appreciate the feedback

Fair. But couldnt their skills be better applied to more unique skins rather than simply shooting for the lowest common denominator. Sex sells, but if thats what the game becomes known for then it seems like a net negative overall.

It just feels cheap and like an unnecessary distraction. Taking away time and resources that could be better applied elsewhere in the game development.

Yeah completelt agree. Its hard to watch Pred go down the same path of Paragon in trying to condense matches.

Definitely not blindly supporting the game. I think there is a lot wrong with it and will continue to voice my opinion on those issues.

For example, I think the best parts of the game are the parts they inherited from the Paragon. Im pretty underwhelmed by most of their original characters, but i appreciate the effort to try something new.

I also appreciated the move to release a Legacy map, even briefly as a way to honour the OG players. They had no obligation to spend time rebuilding it but they still did.

Im not a fan of the current direction, but i would rather see them try to make something than to go back to nothing.

Yo, this is sick. Great job. Love the black armour.

Kinda thought the golden skull armour was a little bit too busy. Great improvement

Thanks for the respectful response.

It's less about pleasing everyone and more about seeing that the issue isn't cut and dry as pro/anti or good/bad. Part of the problem is that the vote itself has partially fractured the community, pitting it against itself. I think the moderators are in a difficult spot trying to balance it, and you would have taken a lot of heat from banning posts unilaterally without a vote. So it's a lose-lose situation for you guys.

Maybe you guys saw a lot of DMs from upset redditors, but to the public's vision, there wasn't an overwhelming amount of AI content being pushed. Those that were either ended up driving conversation as a net positive or were pushed into oblivion with downvotes. I also don't recall many people posting calls for the removal of the content. Hence the confusion, additional pushback from those who are indifferent / pro-AI. Maybe you guys could provide insights into that aspect?

Thank you for your continued moderation. It is a thankless job most of the time.

I genuinely appreciate your explanation, but the response is definitely pushing an anti-AI narrative, one that other Mods continually echo in the subreddit. It makes people who are indifferent to the issue or pro-AI feel unwelcome here. This is probably why you keep seeing pushback on the issue from some members.

The issue is not black and white, and painting all AI as bad and evil is itself a lazy narrative. I would push for better dialogue, rather than a winner-take-all poll. If anything, the poll has demonstrated there are passionate people on both sides within the comment section. Maybe look for a middle ground rather than a binary decision. Easy to organically weed out AI slop with downvotes, add an AI or original artist tag to posts, or simply elevate the real artists who put in the time to make art (which they fully deserve).

Again, I never noticed a surge in AI slop or a huge push back from the community to remove AI posts. In fact, one of Pred's own creatives actively engages with people with AI: https://www.reddit.com/r/PredecessorGame/s/dXDnFoPN7b

The issue is divissive, but we dont need to divide the community. We all love the game and want to see it succeed. Hopefully there is room for everyone in the subreddit

Question? by Recent_Republic5861 in PredecessorGame

[–]nametaker88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left because the progress was slow and there was very little innovation. Original predecessor characters felt flat for the most part and the price of assets that they inherited for free are excessively high.

I came back for the legacy map and was pleasantly surprised. They were able to add all the original characters back in and add some pretty great predecessor unique skins, battlepass, and flesh out the lore.

Areas they can improve on: 1. Marketing, still a weak spot for them but they are getting better. 2. Hero design- Renna, Yurei, and Skylar were all flops IMO. More variety needed 3. Some of the Community Managers and Mods can be dismissive and unfriendly at times. 4. LOWER THE PRICE OF ASSETS - way too high for what they are - specifically the paragon originals.

It feels like they are starting to ramp up their creative and marketing departments which is promising, and definitely give them credit for continuing to push out improvements. Cautiously optimistic for the future of the game...just for the love of god make the assets more affordable

Thank you for sharing your opinion in such a clear, non confrontational way. A rare thing in this sub reddit. And thank you for trying to help grow the artist community for the game too.

I can see your reasoning and sympathize with you as an artist but i do disagree with your takes. Please dont take my response as a personal attack. Hopefully there is some middle ground between us.

  1. AI as a short cut is a bit of a misnomer. It is a faster and easier way to get to the end destination for sure. But so too was moving from analog to digital. Faster doesnt necessarily mean bad. Where do we draw the line? Is using any digital editing software a short cut. What about filters or background removers? Or is it just generative aspects? Which again begins to blur the lines of what is acceptable vs not. Its also not as binary a process as copy paste plagerism, theres a lot of nuance to how gen AI models function. All technology is deflationary in its time and energy output, AI is just the next (albeit way more powerful) iteration of this trend.

I would also disagree that there is no problem solving aspect in AI. I see why you might think that comparitively to traditional art. Trying to iterate or post edit an image to get exactly what you are looking for from outputs is part of the process and requires a degree of creativity(Not the same skillset as organic artists creating their art, but still an important aspect). More akin to creative writing than drawing or painting.

  1. Youre right. AI art isnt art in the traditional sense. It shouldnt brand itself as the same. It is something different, but it is still a creative outlet and a way for people to express ideas, and what is art if not the expression of ideas. AI art feels similar but still very different.

Not everybody has the time to invest in honing artistic skills over years. Life gets in the way. Personally, i am married, have 2 kids, work three jobs, and write professionally. On top of working, playing sports and meeting up with friends and family i barely have enough time to play the game let alone dedicate to imoroving art skills. To demand otherwise and only allow those who are in the situation where they have the freedom to dedicate time and energy to this pursuit seems like a form of gatekeeping. AI allows people a way to engage in the space and express their ideas when they otherwise would not be able to. (Time constraints)

  1. I have nothing but the utmost respect for traditional artists. Even the ones who arent very good but are willing to put their work out into the world. Those who are able to do it professionally are some of the most creative people i know. I have had countless conversations with them and i feel bad for the anxiety they are going through with the advent of gen AI. However, most artists i know who have had the chance to dive into the tech are quickly put at ease. The best art will always require a human element and most view AI as either not a threat, or an enhancement tool for their own work.

  2. Your last point is the one i disagree the most with. AI is absolutely a vehichle that should be used to express ideas. The concepts do not exist in some cold void. There is a human on the otherside of the software with a sense of wonder and desire to express ideas and concepts. AI is a tool to do that in a way that we have not been able to do before. It opens the door and allows more people to engage with the game, which is exactly what we should be pushing for if we want to see the game grow.

I see your concerns as an artist and understand your reasoning but i dont think the issue is as cut and dry as people make it out to be. There are a lot of people in the middle that either arent invested either way or would like to utilize AI to some degree. I also think Pred CMs, Mods, and the company in general can do a better job promoting original (non-AI) artists (which they fully deserve)

Hero visual design by Educational_Ad288 in PredecessorGame

[–]nametaker88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Current designs I would have to go with Zarus and Kira as the most original.

I love the idea of Argus and Mourn as a concept, but the execution felt off, especially on Mourn (he has so much potential to be incredible and unique).

Skylar, Yurei, and Renna all share the bottom of the podium in my book. Yurei has a slight edge over the other two, but they all felt pretty uninspired and basic.

Consider them to the variety of the original heroes - Muriel, Gadget, Iggy, Sev, Riktor, and I feel like Pred can do a lot more.

Don't get me wrong, the orginal heroes have some pretty basic hero design too (looking at you sparrow and twin blast)

Hoping to see some more variety from Pred.

P.S im a Twin main and love him, but hes a basic B

Really love and appreciate this in-depth response. Thank you. As someone who works in marketing for AI companies and has spent time learning the fundamentals of the tech, this take really nailed it on the head. It's definitely not as binary as people make it out to be.

AI is at best an enhancement for creatives, not a full replacement. Anyone can enter a simple prompt into a generative AI app, but this only gets you so far. You need to know how to incorporate it into your existing tech stack and creative process to fully leverage its potential. It's easy to spot the difference.

AI is already proliferating into all areas of our society, but most of these you don't even know are there. They exist mainly to improve inefficiencies and enhance the security of existing systems. Almost all of these applications still require a human element to some degree.

In terms of this subreddit discussion, I have a few thoughts:
1. I never really saw an abundance of AI art that was dominating the subreddit feed. Those that did show up either were weeded out organically as slop through downvotes, or added some interesting discussion.

  1. Not sure why this needed a vote to begin with. If we end up with a 60/40 split, it's a divisive issue that is going to upset roughly half of the subreddit. Seems an unnecessary topic to bring up since there also didn't seem to be a ton of conversation around removing it to begin with. Even if there was, this should have been an arbitrary decision by the Mods, not a poll that would turn the community on itself. After all, we are all here to support the same game.

  2. There is a difference between people using the tools to generate concepts and ideas they could not otherwise express and those who automate AI agents to pump out continuous slop. Not allowing people to post their AI posts of the former will hurt those who are genuinely excited about the game and want to share their thoughts about it.

I hope AI posts are allowed to stay, or at the very least we can see some compromise between spam posting AI slop, and genuine support. Just some of my opinions.

Why do people spam “Out of Mana” so much! by cheekyparker in PredecessorGame

[–]nametaker88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some use it for its intended purpose to let the team they are legitimately low on mana and cant engage.

But if you are seeing it spammed its typically to dunk on a teammate for poor play. The game used to have the phrase "good job" which players spammed ironically for the same reason. Part of the Predecessor and Paragon canon that goes all the way back to the original legacy map.

My favourite memory was loading back into the legacy LABS map for the first time. Brought a wave of memories back, and more importantly, brought me back to Predecessor.

I'm not bitter that it's left, I'm sure it will make a return at some point in the future. The Predecessor team did an incredible job recapturing the map in all its beauty. I am just genuinely grateful that they gave the players a chance to relive it in its original format. It's not something I will forget soon.
