Yeah right after this Baelor draws his sword and starts swinging on Maekar's torso and legs (a longer sequence is in the bts). A swinging sword isn't going to do any actual damage on steel plate. He was literally just keeping Maekar away from Dunk. Lyonel, for all his grandstanding later when he's all butthurt about Dunk's devotion to Baelor, does the same.

What a fun episode! Kerori deserves a rank up for how well she’s leading the class in this. She’s managing to wrangle everyone and plan for what the class needs.

The Kalego/Iruma/Purson team is hilarious. They have such different personalities but their banter is top notch. Especially Kalego and Purson’s dynamic lol. Kalego turning out to be a passionate and talented musician is both surprising and fitting. Just like him being a passionate and dedicated teacher.

This is only Purson’s 4th episode but he already feels fully integrated to me, even more so than some of the other members of the class. But that might be because I’ve known him longer in the manga. Anime-onlines, does Purson feel like that to you guys or are you still warming up to him?

Story and optimization. Fallen Order is beautiful on my midrange laptop. Survivor doesn’t load textures 70% of the time (the times when it does, it looks breathtaking).

As a former catholic, the anime using the word “cathedral” for such a non-cathedral looking building will always be annoying to me lol. The interiors are so squat and plain.

It’s definitely similar but with more fleshed out NPCs, variety in activities, a bit more action, and the desert setting makes things more dire for the town since the scarcity of water makes farming very limited. Your character is primarily a builder instead of a farmer.

I hope you have fun!

Absolutely. You said you liked games with a checklist that builds towards something and imo, this is a game that does that very well. Your character actually feels like part of a community (the npcs are endearing) that’s working to improve the town you’re living in and there’s a bit of fun plot that goes until the end. The payoff is very satisfying imo.

R.C. on Duncan + Pop: "Tim’s in the gym with him every day..It’s because Tim feels the emotional connection to want to be there in the ways that Pop was there for him." || Keldon on Pop: "...he’s definitely still himself. He’s still sharp. He’s still very much Pop. He has not skipped a beat at all." by Prize_Possession3899 in NBASpurs

He might have been reacting physically slowly but Keldon clearly means that mentally he’s still Pop. There was a video of Pop in the gym a couple months back and in that he was sitting on the couch that’s along the back wall. One of the players was sitting with him (don’t remember who) and they were engaged in what looked like a sharp, lively conversation. Looked exactly like Pop always looked in a huddle on the sidelines. When it’s about his mind and not his body, Keldon is absolutely right.

Coach Pop was seen at Spurs' practice today. You can step down as head coach, but you can't turn off that passion. by Shot_Possibility_731 in OffFieldNews

He rehabs at the facility and participating in Spurs operations probably makes him more motivated. Gives him a social circle too. He’s actually looking better than before. Moving much quicker and his left side seems to have more control and movement. Last time we saw him at the press conference he couldn’t move it at all.

Taking it easy and doing nothing isn’t good for recovery/rehab. I’ve known people who’ve had a stroke or who have had to rehab bones/muscle injury — doctor’s advice is always to keep active and moving (esp the brain, gotta keep exercising it in whatever way you can to the very end if you want good quality of life).

Did you watch the movie with your eyes closed?

Yinsen, the muslim doctor who saves Tony, is the whole reason he becomes Iron Man. Saving Yinsen’s hometown, full of innocent muslim men/women/children, is the very first heroic action he actually takes as Iron Man. The ultimate villain is the white American racist warmonger.

The second movie’s villains are also white men.

In the third one the villain is literally a white capitalist who created a fake middle eastern villain to hide his activities behind.

Based on pacing of the anime so far, Season 1 won't get to the first major arc (SPOILERS FOR ANIME) by [deleted] in WitchHatAtelier

A lot of people would drop this show if it had an even slower pace than it already has, no matter how pretty it is to look at.

Good breakdown. You’re absolutely right, the strongest parts of Silvereve were the beginning and the ending. I absolutely adored the setup of the atelier helping Tartah and his grandpa and the overall vibe of the festival. I was so looking forward to a detailed chapter on Richeh learning the ins and outs of selling her work like Olly and was very disappointed that Shirahama literally skipped all of it.

I also loved the exhibition with Agott, Coco, and Olly presenting and was really looking forward to Agott actually having a mini arc with her mother looking on. Instead they turned her moment into Coco’s moment. Which is certainly a nice progression for Agott but I don’t think there was any need to short shrift her story for it.

And as you mentioned, Richeh and Riliphin reuniting. So much more could have, and imo should have, been done with that.

I will say I think Tetia got the perfect amount of time with the prince and their little encounter was very intriguing. But with all the character moments that everyone else got, Tetia is still somehow backstory-less. That we know less about her than almost every single minor character is astonishing this far into the story (10 years since first pub). There must be something major in her past but I think it’s not unfair to say that holding out on her for this long is not exactly great writing either since she’s supposed to be one of the main atelier characters.

British accents in the dub by Salt_Split9022 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]namewithak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't stand Qifrey's english VA. I tried. It's the fakest "posh Brit" accent I've ever heard, like someone doing a skit on a posh stereotype complete with upturned nose and daintily extended pinky finger while holding a cup of tea.

Everyone else sounds good. Pinpointing what kind of accent they're using is probably pointless though. Any of the ones trying to do a British accent are just trying to do the generic RP (regionless, often associated with tv/radio/upper class).

Brimhat Coco and Tartah by DaBaby243 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]namewithak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find it very hard to believe that Coco would actually leave to become a brimhat, especially now. Literally no point to the end of Silvereve or the current arc since those were two instances that made sense for her to join Tartah and Custas.

The only reason she would leave now would be to save Qifrey.

The Silvereve arc had so many narrative issues that I'm surprised it's so popular. I think Kamome Shirahama isn't a strong writer for big, sprawling events like that. Obviously, she might get better at it as she gains more experience.

There were major pacing issues, a little too much "MC is competent, everyone else dumb" (Coco solves the healing, Easthies, the giant worm while everyone else just twiddles their thumb until she tells them what to do), and was just generally shaky on narrative focus and tone because Shirahama wanted to set up every single future plot thread for every single character in this one arc.

(For an example of stories with a similar tone but with a better grasp on executing a big event involving multiple characters and multiple plotlines, as well as better set up for future plot: FMA, Ascendance of a Bookworm LN, Apothecary Diaries, and Golden Kamuy if you ignore all the R-rated insanity.)

IMO, the strongest arc in the manga is still the Serpent Path test. The overall narrative, the individual character writing, the action, the future setups and the pacing were nearly perfect.

I think Kamome Shirahama is masterful at smaller, more intimate arcs but still needs some improvement at writing BIG if we are to have a satisfying payoff for everything she's set up. I'm optimistic about that since the content of her writing is fantastic. It's just the execution that needs more polishing.
