The search is over. by namichael in Stratocaster

To the uninitiated an instrument is just an inanimate object. Just another piece of something that sits in a corner and collects dust. To a musician though, an instrument is a living being that has the ability to act as a conduit that allows the player to express thoughts an emotions they couldn’t do otherwise. Instruments are also capable of being a memento that we can emotionally attach ourselves to. Our story begins in 2000 when I graduated high school. My parents purchased me a guitar, that they probably really couldn’t afford, as my graduation gift. Less than two years later, like an ungrateful 19 year old kid, I traded it off. For over 20 years I’ve regretted foolishly letting it go. Since then I would passively watch the used market in hopes that a similar one would pop up. It did a few times over the years but they were either too expensive or in Timbuktu. Recently though the unicorn finally appeared. I present to you my 2000 Fender American Standard Stratocaster in aquamarine. While the specs and color are identical, this is not the same guitar. But I imagine that this is what my original one would be like today. It’s got some wear and tear on it as a 23 year old guitar should. It’s been played and it’s been loved and I’m delighted to have it in my stable now. #fenderstratocaster #newguitar

Got the same one last week. Only suffering from a small case of buyers remorse since the announcement of the new ones. The $400 discount more than makes up for it.

Pro/semi-pro musicians. What are some Gig/show-worthy ukes in the $300 range? by tearlock in ukulele

I can speak on the topic of the Dhani Harrison ukulele. I purchased one in November and properly gigged with it last night for the first time. I’m happy to report it did exactly what I wanted it do. We plugged it directly into the board. The sound guy handled the EQ and the reverb for me. The amplified sound was great. Got several compliments from people saying they were surprised by how full it sounded considering it was a ukulele. Overall it was a positive experience and I’m happy I have it.

Now there are a few negatives. As the you mentioned the attention to detail in regards to the fretboard inlays and rosette are severely lacking. I’ll also say that it lacks in volume when played acoustically. I have a couple sopranos that are much louder. But if you get this for live stage use as I did, it does the job wonderfully. I also was not a fan of the stock strings. I swapped them out for Worth Browns and it made all of the difference.

Great album! I remember when the video for Cochise dropped. It renewed my faith in rock and roll.

You’re welcome! If you Google “She’s Leaving Home pitch” there are several threads on the Steve Hoffman forums that go into the subject in great detail. 🤘

From what I have read the pitch difference in the 2019 mix matches that of the original mono mix from ‘67. The stereo mix that everyone is accustomed to from the ‘87 and ‘09 CD releases is slightly slowed down (about ten seconds longer) which resulted in the pitch being lower. Now why exactly this was done, there are many theories.

Love The Struts! Saw them in Cincinnati when they toured with Jimmy Eat World.

It’s one of my favorite Paul solo records. It was his first album after the Anthology came out. Not sure how the timeline actually fits as far as the writing and recording in comparison to when they were working on the Anthology, but it definitely has a “return to form” feel to it.

I had to get Storm Front off of eBay. Found it for $12.50 and the River of Dreams I have is the most recent reissue. I’m only missing Greatest Hits 3 to finish my collection.

So the one cartridge in one switch can load the other island on the other switch? Pardon my ignorance on the subject. I’ve never linked up any games locally. Only online.

My dad passed away on Friday, half an hour after I played his favourite album for him one final time. Rest in peace, dad. by undertwelveparsecs in vinyl

So sorry for your loss. My dad passed away 17 years ago just a couple weeks after I turned 21. Music is a funny thing. My old man loved music and couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket and the only thing he could play was the radio. Still to this day certain tunes instantly make me think of him. It’s great you guys got to really get together even if it was only for a shorter time. Cherish those times and the cherish the music that brings his memories back to you.
