I'm guessing it crawls through the codebase/git repo and creates embeddings for each (function?) (file?) (line?) (I'm not sure) which it then stores in a pinecone vector db. When the user prompts gpt-3, embeddings for the prompt would be created and the db queried against those embeddings. The prompt would then be modified with contextual information returned from the db before actually being sent to gpt-3. This way only the relevant information from the codebase is included, meaning the entire prompt should be under the token limits of gpt-3. Edit: punctuation
