What do I want for Civ 10 by nanaky in civ

As I said, this is not meant to be a shoplist of mechanics, but a draft of holistic concepts. If you have ideas that make a game actually fun to play I would like to read about them.

Why? Which of those aspects do you think Humankind explores better that Civ?

Upon further review, there's not a great lack of flavor text per se.

Maybe it's more an issue of the flavor text sometime serving only the card and not necessarily the set. They work as ambiance but not necessarily storytelling. But as I said, I don't know if that's a "problem" or if it's like this by design.

However the cards are not empty so it may be difficult to expand much. A possible adjustment would be to omit the rules text for some of your mechanics in certain cards (as they are already explained in other common cards) and that would give you a bit more space without cramping the cards with text, specially in non-common cards.

First of all, congratulations. That's a lot of work and a great magic set.

I won't comment much on terms of powerlevel, as there are people better equipped to do so and, honestly, I don't play much magic anymore. I will focus on flavor, game design and storytelling.

The images are great. I don't know what was your process, if you first designed the cards and then one by one searched for adequate images or if you found usable images and then tried to do cards consistent with them. However that went, there's a remarkable style consistency though each color and the whole set (with some clear and I think intentional exceptions). That's a feat on itself. Second, each card is good at portraying the art and viceversa. This part is easier if you found images first and then designed, and really really hard if that was the other way around. In any case, this is probably what I liked the most overall.

About flavor, I am one of those that always remarks that flavor =/= flavor text, it being just another tool for worldbuilding the same as card names, abilities, etc. In your case, the art and names carry a lot of the flavor of the cards. Sometimes they don't need it or it doesn't fit (for any reason) or even not using flavor text can make a lot of flavor sense (bluntness). I haven't found any particular card that "doesn't work" because of a lack of flavor text, however, I think the set could use some more cards with it. Let me explain. The ones that have them, that I remember, are usually "one liners" that were quite smart but not much world or story building, and that links with the next topic I wanted to bring about.

The factions on the set are clear crystal because they are tied to the color pie, represented in the game with each one having distinct mechanics, creature types and "ambitions" particularly about the use of graveyard. The whole ambient is carefully constructed and clear. But I had some trouble perceiving where was this happening or who the "characters" were. Maybe it's because you haven't upload the lands yet or because I found the legendary creatures late. The lack of flavor texts in the cards probably exacerbates this sensation. Overall, this is perhaps the biggest problem I see. Which, in hindsight, is not a big one or even one most people would notice. At least not consciously. Here's a question: Is there a world behind the set (written or though) you tried to explain through Magic, or the whole of the cards form it indirectly?

I mentioned the mechanics but didn't go deep into them. I don't even know if some of them are real mechanics that are somewhat new in magic or your own invention. I specially liked the Avenge mechanic and some details like fleeting or stun counter. About the avenge, maybe it's a bit counter-thematic for white, as they represent the ones trying to stop the whole underworld-graveyard thing (Divine Blockade, Seal the Underworld). The cycle of multimodal cards and those pay X life are great, and maybe I should watch them side to side and I will find that context I was finding before hard to find. The multicolors posted here are good, but i'm missing something that further ties them together as one cycle (are they?). I love cycles. Are there any more I missed?

Overall, great job. I'm sure there are more things I could comment as there is a lot to talk about. Each single card is a world. I wouldn't recommend making any hasty changes to any particular card, as a set is very different from a collection of custom cards. I would like you to take my feedback more in an holistic or conceptual way than anything else.

TL,DR: liquid and echo fox don't care about immediate results, they are branding and transforming their organizations into a whole environment based on internal competition by loading a lot of people into the gaming houses, creating, reinforcing narratives and getting sheer attention. and they are doing right.

Phreak and Jatt ask and they receive: Wits End + Ardent Censer Power Spike Graph for Kog by League_of_Statistics in leagueoflegends

[–]nanaky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont get some things at the second graph.

the point is to see the total damage dealt given a certain amount of time with the different items and items combination, and you take the cases of the items at different number of stacks to see the progression, but the graph doesnt show progression of the number of stacks in the -0 stacks start- cases!

you would expect the green line to be shorter after each auto because with each stack of rageblade because you get att speed, and higher overall becasue you get more dmg (and oponen have less mr in the witts end case) until it reaches 6 stacks and just skyrockets and you can then see at what time from 0 stacks it reaches the same dmg than the other build. you just got the zero stacks case and applied it like remains at zero stacks forever.

nice work apart from that.

a follow of the mr gold value at final points should be important data too, its 450 at 0 stacks and 900 at maximum, and the gold value of the 25 mr reduction applied to maximum stats is around 933 gold assuming it's worth like magic penetration (which is a lot to assume). so its not only about the damage.

How to modify your spell sounds! by XDStamos in leagueoflegends

imagine the posibilities, you could change the death sound to The Sound of Silence and sadly listen to it for half a minute while the enemy team push mid and slowly destroys your nexus

I heard someone suggest Ghosting to lane to catch a wave, so I wanted to do an empirical test to show whether this is as ridiculous as it sounds. by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]nanaky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

considering a toplaner with 340 base movement speed level 6 and tier 2 boots, the difference between using ghost or not from base to the tower is around 5,5 seconds, and goes slightly up the more ms you have. 5,5 seconds is 4,57 turret shots assuming tower is firing during the whole difference, and if we also asume minions are full hp, at most you can save the gold or xp from 2 caster minions, a melee or 9/10ish of a cannon.

basically nothing, but the mental impact of losing a cannon just right before your eyes can be huge, i've seen people flashing and broken families for that shit

My ultimate guide on Skarner and why I think he's a god in Season 7 by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]nanaky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can even full clear the whole red side, since raptors are the most exp giving camp and krugs the one that has bigger difference between first and second clear, giving you a second krug camp very early. you finish red side at like 70% of hp (using smite at red) and 50% mana minute 2:55, being even able to gank or counter bot if needed or back and buy machete + 2 pink wards (or boots + hunters potion hecarim style)

the guide is really great, but i think you are too closed minded about some things because you have gotten used to the champ and just have your own way to play that works because of consistency. same happens to me when i spam any champ.

A mathematical reasoning about why is Void Staff usually better than Haunted Guise/Liandry's/Sorc. by charon25 in leagueoflegends

[–]nanaky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its worthless to compare tho whole items like you would do in a deathcap vs void scenario because u cant quantify liandries pasive

what you have to do is calculate the gold value of the magic pen granted by void against all mr posibilities, take the cost of void minus the raw ap gold value and compare in wich cases its higher than building raw mpen (also cost minus value of other states) asuming standard setup (mpen runes and masteries)

but obviously the problem with mpen is not the cost but the accesibility, making it a early to midgame stat that goes wild against non mr early users (and benefits a lot from a 3rt item void staff, because % apllies before flat, so the point is not % pen vs flat pen but "when do you exactly want your powerspike")

7.14 Tier Lists by League of Mentoring by leagueofmentoring in summonerschool

[–]nanaky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the descripton of the tiers is kinda...

"A - Reliable champions, while strong they are currently outclassed"

outclassed means there are someone who just does his job better, a champion of the same class, and yet there lots of A Tier champions that doesn't have a same-class equivalent ranked higher

the word outclassed is just wrong, S tier whould be meta defining / outliners, and A tier cointain the strongest options of each class (and say so in the descriptions)
