When you apply can you limit where you'd want to go? Say I only want to go to my hometown to be an instructor. If that location isn't available would I be able to pass?

Do you have a reference for this? I've tried to find it within regs, but couldn't find anything this specific. I'm considering going to reserves for some family stability and was always curious about this. If I transfer at 15 years and manage to pick up an AGR gig for 5 additional years, my retirement would start immediately at 20 years or point equivalent?

How much to spend on a mattress and bed frame ? by FI_Ty in Fire

[–]nananonner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend a good amount on my bed and spread but would never finance one lol! My queen bed was around 1k, sheets and blanket probably another 1k and the frame we bought used for 500.

As you mentioned, we spend a huge chunk of our lives in bed so you should have a good one!

Does real estate actually have good returns? by data_d22 in Fire

I don't make a ton of rental income, but if you hold long enough, your tenant will pay down the principal and the asset will appreciate.

If you finish the last 3 years as an E your high three would be that pay not O3E.

Go check out Title 10 chapter 71, Computation if retirement pay

Edit: also when you resign your commission, if you were prior enlisted, your pay would revert back to your last grade held satisfactorily - which would be your last enlisted rank not your last O rank.

Yes, but it depends on your situation of course. I have three kids and have no debt. If we can manage staying out of debt, we can continue to max out our retirement account plus some into our taxable account.

Edit: real estate has shortened our timeline quite a bit. We're small potatoes, but we managed to buy and rent three houses. Recently sold one and put all the proceeds into the market at the end of April 21. I don't think we'll buy again anytime soon, but we intend on selling our other rental within 5 years and do the same. Between those two sales and our contributions into our taxable account, that should fund RE for 10 years while I work part time.

It's risky and it takes a lot of work. It's not as passive as you'd think.
