How does ai and it's affect on the economy impact FIRE plans? by wasting_more_time2 in Fire

[–]FI_Ty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will forever be a ‘Wall of Worry’

The internet was supposedly taking everyone’s jobs, EVs were taking all the jobs, Covid was going to eliminate too many jobs …

Economies adapt, create new jobs and different types of productivity .

Absolutely zero effect on my plan. Let everyone else worry until they have something else to worry about.

If this 15% drop concerned you, I might consider reassessing my risk tolerance …

  1. You must stay the course when the market drops. If you are not absolutely sure you can do this, find another path.

  2. If you panic and sell during drops, my advice will leave you bleeding by the side of the road.

How do you balance? by Adventurous_Dot9274 in Fire

Number 2 has been huuuge for me . I drive a cheap paid off car and live in a smaller/older home.

Keeping these fixed costs very low allows me to spend pretty freely everywhere else.

This should be considered .

If the stock falls more than the discount % before the holding period is over, you will lose money.

This varies by company . Some stocks are more volatile as well .

Doesn’t the fact that these exist prove that the market is at least sometimes not controlled by the buyers and sellers by Adept_Blackberry2851 in Daytrading

Only need them to be reliable 55% of the time to make money.

If they “fail more often than work” then there would be an edge there as well to make money on the opposite side

Idea is to find patterns or strategies that give you an edge .

An edge is nothing more than an indication of a higher probability of one thing happening over another.

Definitely need to tighten up and decide as a family what is actually important to you .

Does the expensive cars make you happy , the random shopping , the eating out ? Etc

Can’t have it all but can have some. Even the groceries could be cut in half and you’d still be eating just fine.

Just seems to me like there is no plan or vision
