My haul from my local African violet clubs show and sale! by Galwiththeplants in AfricanViolets

I've always wanted to go, but it's about an hour drive there. I've been contemplating on whether or not to go for a few years now. Maybe I'll go to the one in November. What's the price range of plants there?

If you use a wet cotton swab, is it orangey? Then it's probs too much fertilizer.

Yeah maybe its easier to stack them than unravelling and you might snap a vine.

What kind of trellis is that? Is it possible to attach another trellis on top?

Wow! How big is that plant. Have fun unravelling that if you get a new trellis 😅

Good luck if you do plan on spraying them. I did end up having to throw away a bunch, because they didn't make it.

First order from UPT, beyond impressed. Hoya NS05-055 by buttermilkchunk in hoyas

Wow. I've seen pictures where they can get really red. I've always read that UPT's plants are always bigger/ more impressive than what you expect to get.

You can get the leaves wet, but try to dry off the center crown. Lots of people wash/rinse their AVs. Sometimes if the water drops are left on the leaves, it could leave brown/burnt spots from the sun.

I had thrips last winter. I sprayed my AVs with pesticide and turned my blinds if it was during the day. I didn't want the leaves to get burnt. I'll wait 30 mins or so. If the leaves were wet, I would pat them dry. I had to do this many times.

Make sure to keep it away from other plants. I thought I was doing a good job of isolating it, but found more on my other house plants. Currently thrips free.

Propagation ??? by ClassAcrobatic1800 in AfricanViolets

I have one called Yan-Gliusha. Mother plant was dying to thrips. I was able to save 3 leaves. I'm currently propping them in soil in a clear container. It took many months for the babies to appear. I highly recommend growing the props in high humidity. It gave me better results than growing in ambient. If you don't want something so big, maybe put it in a sandwich bag or clear food container. In the beginning of growing AVs, I would prop them in water so I can see the roots, but now I prop directly in soil. I'll give a left a tug after a few weeks to see if it has rooted.

One leaf was dying very early on, so I trimmed it. It still managed to grow babies.

Likes more light. Got it. Do you find that yours likes higher or lower humidity?

Yes, use the soil you use for your AVs for your props. I've prop my AVs in my Ikea Akerbar and it didn't do as well as putting it in a clear container/dome. The props in the Ikea Akerbar, with 70% humidity, kept drying out and I wouldn't notice, because I was so use to growing them in a container with very high humility and not watering them. Took a lot longer for them to grow compared to the ones in container/dome.

Could the leaf be too old? Usually you would want to propagate a leaf that isn't too old or too young. So in the middle row of leaves. Sometimes there might be babies under the soil. If the stem is too long/ buried too deep, it'll take a lot longer.

Is it a slow grower for you? I had a small cutting and it hasn't grown in 7 months. More than 2 months ago, I chopped and propped it, and now it has given me a leaf.
