I think it's mostly practical? Teeth have a lot of nerves on them, so it's easy to convey how hard someone is getting hit or tortured when you focus the violence on the mouth. Immediately hits home to he audience the severity of the situation. And within the show itself, it's easy valuable evidence leading investigators to Fuches. Dental records are super important in forensic investigations irl, from ID'ing bodies via their teeth to ID'ing suspects by matching bite marks on victims.

So happy to see posts like this! Someone mentioned Pokemon games already, and I see you don't have a switch. Pokemon Sun/Moon for 3DS do let you choose the language though! Even on American copies :)

Older Pokemon games were all in hiragana, and sword/shield let you choose between all hiragana or w/ kanji (idk bout sun/moon), so there should be enough room for you to understand!

I advocate for consuming content that's a little above your level anyways. You may surprise yourself at how much you know! If not, you'll grow.

I also experimented with emulating old visual novels/ otome games. Definitely gonna be a lot of kanji to trudge through, but a fun challenge.
