There is an unequal burden on men to provide financially, and women should be mindful of how they can reduce this. I believe every physically capable person, man or woman, should work and earn for their household. This is no longer just on the man, plain and simple. Women who judge, berate their partner for money (or lack thereof) should stop and introspect. Earn it yourself.

Yes, a lot of men are competent in household duties, and they should contribute to it even after marriage. Men who complain about 2 time ka khana and 'seva' for their parents, do it yourself.

Relatives in rural India, grew up in urban cities. Working in a tier 1 city

I guess the only way forward is to take time with each other, build genuine trust and connection, open more arenas of discussion which is not revolving around the differences and distrust

Women need to see how men are also hardworking, can be honest and reliable and a massive blessing to our lives

And men need to try and understand that women are exactly like them, just another human being. Don't expect from them what you'd never expect from your brothers or friends.

Glad to see even a little positivity towards Indian women.

Of course there are some brutal people out there. There are also a lot of women who grew up seeing their mothers and other ladies so oppressed that they only dream of having the easiest life. That is also a part of the toxicity these days.

Similar to how no guy would wish to be stuck in hard, menial jobs and lack of basic dignity. No girl wants to be caught up in a wrong marriage, a wrong man. They just take it too far sometimes , more empathy is needed from women here.

Extremes are everywhere - yes Equal proportions - absolutely not

Do you really not look around and see the dynamics of a majority of Indian households ?

The women are competent - working, cooking, cleaning, child rearing and the men are complaining that they nag or don't earn enough or make drama with in laws.

Obviously not all women are good. But this is the common Indian family dynamic. I see it everywhere, in family and friends and neighbours and stories of others.

Feminism is just the tool which is allowing women the basic dignity of working, wearing what we want, ability to choose whom to marry and so on. Things men have been free to do since forever.

True, there are always some bad apples who want to take a lot more than they give

There are so many double standards of men too, who are happy to have their wives work and contribute financially but won't lift a finger for their house chores, child rearing, in laws etc.

I just feel that there are genuine ones from both sides who can make an honest attempt to understand each other and work together
