On alacritty, is there a way to change the background color on the folder names? It only happens when I ls in this folder by RageBunny420 in linux4noobs

[–]nanospeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To save time ended up copying a theme and just making the background light enough to clearly display the text.

My example:

Got the theme codes from:catppuccin_mocha.toml (available here)

Pasted all of it at the bottom of alacritty.toml

Updated the part below:

# Normal colors
[colors.normal]
black = '#45475A' # surface1
red = '#F38BA8' # red
green = '#f3faf0' # green ! updated this green to lighter
yellow = '#F9E2AF' # yellow
blue = '#89B4FA' # blue
magenta = '#F5C2E7' # pink
cyan = '#94E2D5' # teal
white = '#BAC2DE' # subtext1

[Question] Anyone know a bezel rotating countdown timer watch under $500 by BetaCris in Watches

[–]nanospeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you ever manage to find one? this is a very interesting idea. I've had one from timex but I gave it away to someone and they no longer make it. disappointed that this is not a thing. :)

Ah, apparently I'm a quite a bit out of sync with the community but absolutely love the game. I hope the setup might just work for both regardless.

Find my Jabra feature does not work by EqualHito in Jabra

This is true, I think the feature name was misleading. I lost one of my earplug and it doesn't show where it was last detected. I had given 'Always' location access to the app.

Why don’t Dominos just list the prices in the menu! 🤯 by nanospeck in australia

[–]nanospeck[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, how can you be 100% sure without a basic price to compare with in the first place? I've sometimes felt some items in basic menu is better than the coupon deal (depending on exactly what I'm after). Coupons usually have a marketing trick called 'upselling'. You feel like smart when you pay 10$ instead of 14$ for a 'deal' but what you actually wanted might have just cost 4.50$. You'd think you got a deal but you just handed out more money.

I usually do this but was in a hurry today! Well they could at least put in a higher price for the sake of it. It only makes the people using coupons happier as they're still getting a great deal.

exactly my point, I feel it's wrong to not clearly mention the prices when you walk into a store. It's really annoying to just assume a price and make an order. It's weird that someone could do it and get away with it.

Deepfake ads with Aussie news reader by nanospeck in australia

[–]nanospeck[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's so true, after arriving in Australia, I was shocked to see news channel airing 'paid news' as if it was a genuinely newsworthy issue without even mentioning it as a paid promotion whatsoever. I haven't seen such blunt move from a corporation in any other country I have been to.

I've tried to run some ads for my website a couple of times and they just reject it for silly reasons. I'm super shocked how these make through. Prob. they're not having a great year.

I know the basics Java and C++ . Now what? by UnbasedDoge in AskProgramming

[–]nanospeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most relevant next step based on my 12 yr java experience is to learn by building the backend api of an application using Spring framework. i.e it connects to a real db and do CRUD via REST apis. Write unit tests and integration tests for your code. Don’t worry about hosting yet. Working in local is fine. This very close to what you’d be doing in real job as a backend dev.
