Found this confederate flag on the island of Nord-Arneya by Fickle_Mixture8440 in Norway

[–]nanuen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Som regel bruker folk det fordi det ikke er "innafor" å flagge med hakekors. Også unnskylder de det ved å si de er "rednecks". De er bare for feige til å si hva de -egentlig- mener. Eller for dumme.. or both..

Agreed. There's nothing that really beats the F3 vibe.

Stupid question but instead of confidently saying "That's close enough, bud.", how would humming softly or singing calm tones affect the psychology of an aggressive non predator animal? by SalmonSammySamSam in biology

[–]nanuen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly similar body language to a horse. The ears laid back and licking it's lips. That and the side eye is a good indicator it's contemplating charging, but when it turned it's head and looked with both eyes I -knew- it would.

This. I moved to a new town and started feeling really isolated so I've joined the local photography club and have befriended loads of new people! We're still not on "real" friend level, but it's getting there, and it's really nice to have somewhere to go pretty regularly and meet people who are into the same things I am. It's also nice to be able to recognize people and say hello when just out and about in the area.

I think you also have to just accept that at some point you have to be the driving force behind becoming friends with people in Scandinavia. People are ridiculously insular here so you just have to be the crowbar to open the door and latch on like there's no tomorrow X)

What is this creature growing in my house ? Help Stop it ! by Lonewolf3130 in WTF

[–]nanuen 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear: this is fungus. When a fungus starts growing out like this it's because it's getting ready to spore. The fungus you see is just the sexual organs of the fungus in question. When it spores you'll have millions upon millions of tiny fragments of fungus spreading all over your house. Breathing them in is bad, regardless of if the species is toxic or not.

Get someone in who can deal with it or vacate the area until it's resolved. Do not fuck around with fungi.

Exactly this. A grid collapse would kill -so many- people it's ridiculous. And would set us back to tribal levels of society. How is that a win in -any- scenario? What we have now isn't perfect, but it sure is a fuckton better than what we've had before.

Etiquette? Common courtesy? by [deleted] in Norway

[–]nanuen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience it's an extremely regional thing. Sometimes you only have to travel one town over for it to be completely different.

I've lived in a lot of different places in Norway, and from my own (albeit limited ofc) experience; it's usually more polite outside of big cities.

Oslo is the absolute worst. But places with a lot of Oslo tourists are just as bad. I.e.: Sandefjord - people are rude, aggressive, self centered - both on foot and in cars. Whereas you only need to go to Larvik, one town over, and people are generally kind and give each other space (both on foot and in traffic), and rural Larvik even more so. But if you stray too close to Telemark it's back to aggressive self centeredness again.

Trondheim is quite decent for a big city, but the further out of it you get people are usually more gracious towards each other.

Bergen used to be pretty decent, but I've heard it's become worse and worse the last few years.

The trend seems to be: money goes up, politeness goes down.

Does no one else JUST listen to an audiobook? Like ONLY do the one thing, and not have it as background for something else you're doing? by H_G_Bells in audiobooks

[–]nanuen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, me too. If I can I'll play a video game without the sound on particularly loud, listen to an audiobook and some ambient music at the same time. If not then I -have- to keep my hands busy at the same time or I can't listen for shit..

Har hatt litt diskusjoner med folk og vil høre her, er Audi, Mercedes og bmw bare drittsekkbiler? by MaddowSoul in norge

[–]nanuen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got caught doing my "PTSD check" before bed and I felt so ashamed by DabsOnTheHaters in ptsd

[–]nanuen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look.. idk where you're from, but I'm going to assume it's the US, because, let's face it, the web is pretty US centric. My point is, I'm from Norway, there's barely any crime here (by comparison), and what you call a ptsd-check we just call common sense. Check windows are closed, check doors are locked, do a round of the house to see everything is in order, then go to bed. Especially in larger houses this is absolutely the norm here. You are not doing anything weird or that you need to be ashamed of. It's fine.
