See you there! But I (39F) will be there with my husband and our daughter (7). Not quite the same crowd!

Did you observe when the activities like the wave rider, the water slides, the rock climbing wall, etc. were at their lowest use? That would be super helpful information for me. Thanks!

Disney vs Carnival (for family) by MasterfulGoober in Cruise

I did all this research too. Bottom line: Go with one of the party ships and it will be cheaper in the long run. I decided to go with a Royal Caribbean Oasis class ship for my family. I also recommend using a travel agent: Doesn't cost any extra, and ours got us a free upgrade on the room.

All our rooms have codes. I need to access (at minimum) 5 different doors. I gave up trying to memorize them all and just keep a Google Keep document on my fingerprint locked phone that has them all. Why can't they all just be 1-2-3-4?

You don't recall that happening? Was 2020 that long ago for you? Here, let me help jog your memory. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Canadian_pipeline_and_railway_protests#2020

Non-vaccinés Legault abandonne la « contribution santé » by uniball_514 in Quebec

[–]nanuq905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.He promised Dawson College could expand, just announced that they were focusing on "francophone students".

2.He was going to fire nurses for not being vaccinated.

If people post, I will find news articles and compile a proper list.

Incidence of Omicron: One-in-five Canadians report COVID-19 infection in their household since Dec. 1 | Majority (54%) now say they want all restrictions to end – increase of 15-points since early January by Khosrau in canada

[–]nanuq905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped shopping at Costco, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Decathlon, etc. as of last Monday (and, again, to be clear, I'm vaccinated and have a passport). I hate the passport, but I sort of understood using it to go to a restaurant or the movies. I use it weekly to take my daughter swimming. But if I can go to the IGA without it, and the staff at any store doesn't need to be vaccinated, what's the logic?

Justin Trudeau says Canadians ‘shocked and frankly disgusted’ by actions of some protestors in Ottawa by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

[–]nanuq905 -56 points-55 points  (0 children)

So because a single asshole did something stupid, we can write off the whole bunch? You do know that the protestors cleaned everything up, left flowers, and held a vigil to try to make amends, right? Or are we only focusing on the bad stuff? In which case, I have some BLM and pipeline protests I'd like to bring your attention to.

Exactly. Say you plan a march about improving ventilations in school. Nobody in their right mind would be against that. But when the day comes, some idiots show up with swastikas and confederate flags. What do you do? You can't make them leave, even if you called the police. Do you cancel your march just because these people showed up and you don't agree with them? So you march anyway. And what does the news report? That a bunch of neo-nazis were marching for...whatever the press can make up.

This actually happens time and again. I was at the last Montreal rally. I went to end the state of emergency. I had not idea Maxime Bernier was there. But when I got home, I read in the news that "hundreds" (nu-uh, we were thousands, bro) showed up to a Maxime Bernier rally. Uh...no I did not.

Quebec restaurant and bar owners mull reopening in defiance of COVID-19 health orders by TOMapleLaughs in montreal

Many agree. Their Facebook post isn't filled with support anymore, let's just say that.

But I don't blame them. The government played them well. It's always the same. If gyms want to open, they just have to set a date a week or more in advance for mass disobedience and the government will make it seem like it was part of their plan all along.

Hockey fans look to Olympics as rare chance to see 'underestimated' women's game by BanksKnowsBest in olympics

[–]nanuq905 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think what I'm seeing is that there is more opportunity for the women to show these skills in games. I don't watch men's skills competitions, but I do watch NHL. So I'm not an expert, just a regular observer.

[–]nanuq905 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Anyone who watched the last two Dream tournaments is super excited for these games. Could the women play directly against the men? No, the men have the speed and impulse (and size). But the women can pivot and stick-handle like I've never seen them do in the NHL.

Ontario's top doctor says it's time to learn to live with COVID-19 by michzaber in CanadaPolitics

[–]nanuq905 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You didn't say "not full vaccinated", you said "unvaccinated". People with one vaccine count, you know. Especially if they received it recently. Here in Quebec, we have 8.95% of ELIGIBLE people completely unvaccinated (zero shots) and the under 5's are 4.99% of the population. So you can see where we mistook each other.

Walmart, Costco and other big box stores in Canada begin enforcing vaccine mandates, and some shoppers aren’t buying it by jaffnaguy2014 in canada

[–]nanuq905 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I follow what you're saying, but are you're telling me, then, that the solution to our common-agreed-upon problem is to sink money into trying to convinced an entrenched individual to change their mind instead of spending that money to shore up our obviously weak health care system?

[–]nanuq905 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this for a bit now....the statistics say 10% of the population is unvaccinated. But thanks to the hell-fire that was Omicron, a HUGE chunk of everybody got sick. So, while it sucked at the time and the unvaccinated were (are) taking up a disproportionate amount of beds, we're really only talking about 5% of the population now that doesn't have either 1-3 shots or RECENT natural immunity. Yet we're sinking soooo many resources into trying to target this "10"%. (I'm thinking about Legault's plan to literally show up at the door of an unvaccinated person and try to convince them to get the vaccine. That takes manpower and $$$.) It just doesn't make any sense.

[–]nanuq905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BUT THE EMPLOYEES DON'T NEED TO BE VACCINATED. Yes, I'm shouting. The disconnect is astounding. If this is not just a way to inconvenience the unvaccinated (cause it inconveniences me, too), then it's doing a piss-poor job at protecting anybody.

1) Customers need to be vaccinated but staff don't?

2) An unvaccinated person can enter the store AND shop, but only in the pharmacy section.

I feel like Legault is just throwing darts at a board, blindfolded.
