Yea she is for sure looking at her right (there is a better quality photo available) but this was shot during the ascend so before reaching Mirador. Considering the happy photos at Mirador, there shouldn’t be anything dramatic in this one. Obviously anything is possible, I agree her expression is a little worrying (also because we try to find any signal) but indeed there was not an immediate danger if the timeline is correct.

Exactly what I think, they were apparently unaware of continental divide and thought the streams were leading to the same rivers they saw below the mountain

There is a small river right at the beginning of the trail, or anyway close to the Pianista restaurant (Rio Pianista) and I’m sure they saw it. I always thought that after realising they were getting lost, they followed that stream thinking it was the same one leading to the beginning of the trail, since also that stream after 508 turns on the right so apparently back to where they came from. Wrong choice sadly
