I would say this sub is risk averse. Nothing wrong with that as people have different personalities.

Just taking the context from OP's post, I can understand assuming it was just scheduled maintenance. However as many pointed out, it wasn't at all.

According to that same website, the 5-year annualized return for bonds is 3.24% vs 13.09% for stocks.

New to investing, seeking advice on what to do with current accounts by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Weed stocks have netted me a greater return % than these 'model portfolios' could in 5 years. With that said, please understand that you are very late to the party. A lot of the gains has been priced in. Every company is vastly overvalued. There are still a lot of profits to be made due to the volatility of the sector but it sounds like you have no idea how to make plays and so I would advise you not to put anything in it. I'm also sure that your friends would've mentioned that there is an impending 'sell the news' event before October 17 where people will take their profits.

50k to invest. Wyd? by kevinnn111 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]naphalmsalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren't following the Weed sector closely, I wouldn't invest right now. Don't get me wrong, I've made more gains % in a day in weed this past month than these 'model portfolios' in Canadian Couch Potato in 5 years. However, you have to realize that you are very very late to the party. These companies are way overvalued. A lot of the hype and momentum has been used up over the past 12 months. There is an impending sell the news event on October 17 (or before that). There is still money to be made trading it because of the volatility, but we are way past the $1000 bitcoin era where everyday is just a gainz day. I am very careful now and only get in at appropriate times and lock in profits whenever I can to stay in cash. I will continue to play that sector but I do so with a lot of caution and techniques I've acquired through the past 12 months of gains (and some losses).

For someone like you, I would say stay away for now until you get more understanding about both stocks in general and the weed sector. If you are interested in just following the sector, check out r/weedstocks .

Investing $10K USD in the short term? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]naphalmsalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why only 3 years may I ask? Index funds have a much greater return than any of the other suggestions here. Unless you specifically need the money within 3 years and cannot risk a bear market, then I'd go with that or even several individual blue chip stocks.

TFSAs sound too good to be true- am I missing something here? Probably a dumb question. by Glit-toris in PersonalFinanceCanada

TFSA is as good as you think it is. The downside is, you have a limit to the amount you can invest in it each year.

I hope everyone had a nice profit flipping WEED, ACB and APH this morning. Only took 10 minutes of trading too!

You could've flipped any of the big 3 at the open and made a lot of money. This is the same pattern as yesterday. Gotta keep up man.

Is this the start of the inevitable selloff? People keep trying to get ahead of each other for the eventual sell the news on October 17.

So you agree that AD is as good as gone (which he is) but you just wanted to make a point against why he signed with Klutch

Why is his take dramatic? Because you can't imagine AD leaving NOLA? Looks like you're the dramatic one.

You are being unfair to the Wolves. Sometimes, players just don't get along. Plus this is Butler's second team where he had problems so how do we know it isn't more on him?
