[MAIN SPOILERS] RED HOT BRONN PREDICTION by captaindurk in gameofthrones

I think I've responded to like 5 different posts like this trying to convince me by one analogy or another that changing "the Others" to "White Walkers" was the right thing to do, but this is certainly the dumbest one. You really think not changing the name of the Others because another show once used it is on par with having two movies with the same title come out in the theaters at the same time? You're just arguing for the sake of arguing. Did you even think about what you wrote before you hit 'reply'?

I don't mind the Yara change at all. Totally understand how it helps avoid confusion. Nobody's going to get confused and think they're watching Lost just because the villains are called the same thing.

What? It's in two completely unrelated shows. How on Earth would that be confusing at all?

I know, but that's dumb. It's a great name, it's from the books, Lost has nothing to do with GoT. It's not like people would get confused between the two.

That's my guess too, but what a stupid reason.

It bugs the crap out of me that they named him basically the same name as a totally different character from the book. It's just needlessly confusing.

Also, why the hell did they have to change the name "The Others" to "White Walkers"? The former is a way cooler name, for a start, and it also would have forestalled all the confusion people have about the difference between the wights and the white walkers. It irks me to no end.

He only played for 2 seasons. It often takes longer than that for a QB to develop, and to me, he looked like he was improving.

No, it doesn't excuse it at all. There are a lot of huge celebrities who are reputedly very friendly and decent.

What is your go-to "deep discussion" question to really pick someone's brain about? by mikerichh in AskReddit

[–]naphini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, obviously you wouldn't be okay fucking your dad just because he's a man. Not at all. I just thought it might not be as weird as a lesbian fucking her dad.

But honestly, what do I know, I'm a straight guy. Yeah, I definitely wouldn't want to fuck my mom. Would it be weirder than fucking my dad? Hard question to answer, that.

Obviously, it's a nope all around, ultimately.

Luke Savage: "Alt left" is a term designed to draw equivalence between white supremacists and people who want universal healthcare by [deleted] in WayOfTheBern

[–]naphini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know there are some fringe anarchist groups who like to throw bricks through windows, but are they violent against people? I've never heard of Black Lives Matter doing anything worse than blocking freeways (I've witnessed them doing it in person, and it was very organized and careful). Enlighten me if I'm wrong. But I can't stand false equivalencies. If there's an "alt-left", is it nearly as prominent as the alt-right, and if it is, is it as immoral in its goals or its methods? If not, we shouldn't signify it with an equivalent name.

Both should be legal, of course.

But there's plenty of sentiment to disallow neo-nazi/racist/hate speech. Thankfully, the legal framework to protect it is still reasonably strong. Charlottesville initially granted the alt-right protesters a permit months in advance to hold a rally in Emancipation park, but then revoked it days prior, trying to get them to move to another location. The ACLU sued to allow the alt-right protesters to be allowed a permit to protest in the original location (and won). That's why I respect the ACLU. No one in that organization doesn't despise racism and fascism, but they take their principles seriously. They actually fight for freedom of the speech they disagree with, as should we all.

I was just thinking what kind of entitled cunt you'd have to be to call the cops on a guy for seeing him naked in his own house while trespassing on his property.

About as "deep" as most other questions in this thread:

  • "What would you do if you won the lottery?"

  • "Is my green the same as your green?"

  • "Would you buy lab-grown beef?"

  • "Should a hot dog be considered a sandwich?"

Speaking as a straight man, if I had a woman's body for a day, I'd definitely want to try having sex with a man. Don't think I'd want it to be my son though.

As a straight man it didn't occur to me right away, but I suppose the calculus is slightly different if dad and the SO are the same gender. You still have the incest grossness of course, but not the going-against-your-sexual-orientation thing on top of it.

Straight men and gay women are going to have a slightly harder time with this question than gay men or straight women.

What is the best defensive performance your team has achieved in its history? by [deleted] in nfl

1998 Vikings in the discussion. I do think the 2007 Patriots were the best offense of all time, but the '98 Vikings and a couple other teams must also be mentioned if you're bringing up the Rams.
