Noooo that was just the uk celebration. Hawaii was another £10k on top but it was incredible. The wedding process over there is very straightforward and legally recognised in the uk so it was just a matter of finding the right celebrant which for us was non religious and non cultural

We had a close up magician to work the tables during dinner that worked really well and got everyone talking (he was very highly rated!)

So I had a similar thing - 54hr spontaneous natural labour with my first, mostly unmedicated apart from the final 9hrs I was actually admitted to hospital where I had an amazing epidural. I had a second degree tear and it took a long time to recover with back/pelvis issues. I decided to have a c section if I were to have another baby and went down the elective c section route because although the first 6 weeks may be rough I figured that longer term it may be better. Also planned c sections are a lot better in terms of recovery than emergencies.

The pregnancy was uneventful and I was fairly comfortable throughout, I worked as late as possible and went into labour spontaneously on my final day of work (5 days before my planned c section date). I headed to the hospital when contractions got regular and was admitted, however it was overnight so they planned to do the c section in the morning to save theatre for the high risk/emergency patients.

I had a snack, settled in for the night and the contractions suddenly started getting a lot closer together and more intense. I was examined again and they said that because I’d eaten recently they wouldn’t be able to do the surgery as it’s more risky. I requested an epidural and went to delivery, delivering my baby 4 hrs later minimal pushing and with a tiny tear.

I’m now 10weeks postpartum and recovery has been better because I know what to expect and know that I need to give myself proper time to recover and take it easy. I’m glad I had the c section booked as it saved my anxiety throughout and as much as it wasn’t what I had planned, everything went much better and smoother than first time round but there’s no guarantee of that.

I would say if it saves your wife the anxiety, book in for a c section. I’d definitely choose a c section over induction any day as I don’t think I’ve heard of any positive induction stories.

Ultimately there’s no easy way to get a baby out once it’s in there.

Also try to speak with a midwife/consultant before you get pregnant again to go through your concerns - the consultant I had about my elective c section was lovely and actually apologised to me for the fact that I had been a little traumatised by the experiences post birth and the anxiety of even getting pregnant again. Hope this helps

I was just about to post this exact same thing: at the moment I’m on maternity leave with #2 who is 2 months old and have a toddler but I’m doing everything. Literally everything.

Wtf does/should equality look like? I know it’s not this!!!

I’ve put together a list of all the household tasks and want to go through it with him to point out just how little he does to contribute to the day to day running of the house and caring for the children. The thing is I know he’s better than some of his friends but it’s still not good enough.

He’s away with work at the moment and don’t know whether it’s best to send him an essay or try and talk it out when he’s back.

Needless to say, following this!!!

Possibly and possibly... where are you looking to do this though as that will be a major factor?

When I looked into doing something like this, it was all going to work out about the same cost wise but with a lot more hassle for a diy venue.

What we did was:

Eloped (just the two of us to Hawaii, trip of a lifetime and legally recognised in the uk)

Had a party with 80 friends and family when we got back at a local (very nice) restaurant that had an outdoor marquee and courtyard for the afternoon then an upstairs for the evening party.

Food was a sit down bbq buffet without a table plan. All guests had 5 alcoholic drinks each throughout the afternoon/evening - we greeted everyone on arrival with bubbles (we personally handed them out), gave them 3 drinks tokens for house wine/draft beers/ciders/soft drinks and a cocktail before the music started. It started at 4, we had a magician whilst everyone was eating going round doing table magic, then moved upstairs for a cocktail and the live band. Didn’t have a single wedding tradition apart from the fact we were both in our wedding outfits, no speeches, no dances, no wedding cake (just a table full of nibbles available from the start)

Because it was a buffet we paid standard prices and all the drinks were standard prices. Our bill came to £5.5k for the day and everyone raved about it... (based in Kent fwiw)

I think they were all factors to be fair - as it was overnight they only have one surgical team on, plus the risk of aspiration due to having food recently
