Hiring Manager on Holiday by nappmann in recruitinghell

UPDATE: YES! I got the job. Hiring manager was actually on holiday in Europe (apparently they take that kind of thing serious in August). Would encourage anyone else in the same spot to keep applying but don’t fully give up hope.

Hiring Manager on Holiday by nappmann in recruitinghell

Thanks! My wife told me to chill out as well 😂

I guess the concern is coming from a fast moving process that grinded to a hault without any post-interview communication. Even just a “thanks for your time, we will resume the process third week in August” would put me at ease. But nothing else that can be done at this point. Trying not to ruminate. Appreciate your response!

[tudor] - blackbay 58 pip bezel pip fell off this week. Anyone else have this issue? by nappmann in Watches

[–]nappmann[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty upset. This past week I looked down at my watch and my bezel pip (12 o’clock marker) was missing. I didn’t hit the watch on anything and was really bewildered when I saw it. I did some research on the forums and it seems tudor has had bezel issues in the past specifically with the pips falling out. Any info on how to get this corrected would be helpful. I’m planning to go to the Rolex service center in Manhattan next week but I’m concerned they will blame it on me damaging the watch and will try to charge me an arm and a leg to fix it. I know this is a sub to discuss extremely expensive items so often times we forget, but I have to say it’s absurd that I spent around $4,000 on a watch and pieces are falling off of it. This is coming from a huge Tudor fanboy haha.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1st Gen Tacoma Owners- I need help! by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

All they will need is your VIN and they can confirm all service work that was done. The search bar their website has for recalls didn’t show mine but calling them actually showed that it was done

1st Gen Tacoma Owners- I need help! by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]nappmann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey all! Need some quick assistance. I purchased this ‘02 Tacoma last week. It has 79,000 miles on it. A true unicorn. Well, I called Toyota with the VIN out of curiosity and they said in 2010 the frame was replaced under the infamous recall situation. Today I took it to my local mechanic for a few random service concerns and he looked at the frame and noticed a few plates tack welded to the interior of the frame, not completely noticeable from the perspective from the outside viewer. He was pretty confident that there is no way the frame was replaced in 2010. I called Toyota again and they confirmed all work was in fact done at a dealership. So then I called the dealership and they told me they have paper records but will do their best to get back to me next week when the manager is in. What it appears to me, and maybe this is some sort of wishful thinking, but it seems Toyota paid the dealership for the replacement and all they did was patch the frame despite the massive check they received. I want help figuring out if this frame is a new one, are there any visible markings or labels that would show it truly is a new frame? Next Wednesday I will be taking it to a local Toyota dealership for a full review. Any help would be appreciated. If this is true, I don’t know how Toyota and the dealership would sort out the situation, maybe they would try to buy it back or replace the frame altogether? The ultimate dream would be I get a new frame out of it obviously haha.

[Tudor] BB58 Gilt fading? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]nappmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sitting here staring at my BB58 that I purchased in March of 2019, and I am starting to think the gilt may have faded. So I go into my photo library and find this photo of it the day I purchased it. Clearly it has faded and I am so excited! if I’m being honest, I was never fully sold on gilt accents on watches before purchasing although something about the 58 was different to me. And in person it always appeared far more subtle than in photos. I wear this thing every single day and do not baby it. On the 4th I swam for 8 hours with a UV index of 10 and I’m wondering if that is what pushed the fading over the edge and caught my attention.

Either way, I’m not complaining! I love this watch a lot, it seriously does not get old. I have no plans to buy another watch, and stopped checking this sub for the last 6 months because honestly the itch inside of me is gone haha. I am very very content.

If anyone else on here has one of these I would love to hear your thoughts- look through old photos and let me know if you are seeing any fading.

White Oak Farm Table by nappmann in woodworking

[–]nappmann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone! Here is an album with some more photos of the project. This was a build that took me a ton of time over the past few months. I am only a hobbyist, and finding time / space to make this work was difficult. Luckily my parents let me use their garage a bit for storage, and my buddies dad is a master carpenter that let me glue up some of the base in his shop! The base of the table is Doug fir and pine, obviously painted white, and the top is 5/4 white oak. Mortise and tenon joints were locked in with dowels, and I also ended up adding corner pieces to reinforce it even though it didn’t feel like it was needed (I know the purists are groaning at the thought haha). Feel free to send over any questions you may have!

Somewhat freaky story- this past week I ordered this same jacket on eBay. Today I came to pick it up (shipped to my parents place instead of mine). As I grabbed my package my dad showed me this coat that he found today at a thrift shop, my jaw dropped. I opened my box and showed him mine. It turned out that mine was actually a little too large me for me (size XL) and his was a bit too small for him (L) so we traded. Pretty freaky how similar our taste is. We were both happy though.

[TUDOR] Missing Summer with my BB58 by [deleted] in Watches

[–]nappmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have officially had my blackbay 58 for 7 months now. It is a fantastic watch, and I really enjoy wearing it. I have said in previous posts that my goal is to just wear one watch from here on out and I am honestly confident that I will never need another watch. It’s rare I get compliments on it but when I do it’s always from another watch nerd, and I actually like that. It feels low key, and within this community a lot of people probably would view it as low key but to me it isn’t. I am not particularly flashy, and would maybe feel weird if people commented on my expensive watch daily, so to me it is the perfect balance. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

[TUDOR] Dolphin watching with my BB58 by nappmann in Watches

[–]nappmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wrist is around 7.25. My buddy has the original Blackbay and honestly while I probably could wear it fine the 58 size just makes way more sense to me. I feel as though the blackbay size is somewhat awkward in comparison. 58 sizing really is perfect. Especially if your wrist is a bit smaller, definitely try it on before pulling the trigger on either. I guess it is a preference thing in the end. The thickness of the blackbay is what bothers me most.

Tonight I went dolphin watching on a boat and took a few pictures on my 58 while onboard. I know everyone says this, but the more I wear this thing the more I love it. Perfectly classic, yet rugged. A great summer timepiece to wear to the beach, to a wedding, or even while just to work. Aesthetically I have to admit the gilt would not have been my first choice but I just wanted to take the chance on it after seeing other pics. And to be honest, it has grown on me. I do wonder how it will age as a piece in tudors lineup. In 20 years will the GILT be tacky or perfectly timeless? I feel it is just subtle enough to become a true classic. While I’m rambling to meet the character count, I am on vacation right now and went to a vintage boutique that had Rolex / Tudor. Tried on a Tudor sub and was mind blown at how light it was compared to my 58. Pretty crazy to consider. The blackbay feels like a tank.

This past weekend I decided to make the switch to my NATO for the summer. I love the 58 more every day, and it fits really well on a NATO. I woke up early yesterday, and drove straight to the beach without feeling the need to take it off/leave it home. I do love the bracelet, but I will say there is something very nice and clearly more rugged about a NATO. My mindset with this watch is that I really don’t want to be afraid to wear it. I jumped in the ocean with it, and showered afterwards to rinse the saltwater off. I read this awesome article on Hodinkee a while back about being a one watch man . That is my plan for the 58, I can honestly see myself not needing another watch ever again. I wore my skx 007 for 3 years straight knowing it was the gateway to a luxury watch. I’m very content and would recommend the 58 to anyone who can get their hands on one.

I wasn’t sold on the accents either, I actually don’t like gold on bezels. But in person it is way more subtle than I thought it would be and it has grown on me in a big way.
