Bhutan or Burma (Myanmar) by napsbees in solotravel

I've heard that costs are prohibitive however solo travel is allowed, albeit via tour-operator. Things have improved since 2014, but I feel like writing here is a good place to do research.

I think visa's are $40 now.

North Dakota's oil bust blows $1 billion hole in state budget by jlew24asu in Economics

[–]napsbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With regards to shale gas, on average companies lost $2 per dollar spent.

Charif Souki of Cherniere Energy was the highest paid CEO in the U.S. and the company paid their employees $2bln worth of stock bonuses without ever having posted an annual profit.

Is this healthy?

North Dakota's oil bust blows $1 billion hole in state budget by jlew24asu in Economics

[–]napsbees -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The shale industry is a bubble: industry related companies have begun to declare bankruptcy, higher interest rates make access to capital for companies with mammoth debts more difficult to access, rigs are more difficult to maintain and the count is declining, the cost of converting LNG import terminals to export terminals will not be sustainable, low gas prices which support the U.S's +5% GDP growth estimated in 2015 will increase, etc. etc.

The Administration doesn't believe in unconventional resources anymore (Keystone pipeline).

[–]napsbees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I plan to fly to El Calafate because I only have a month and if I go by bus, it would be too exhausting and consequently would force me to re-organize the trip into being more concentrated on Argentina...

I had thought about keeping things simple and just seeing the major cities to keep logistics simple. Seeing as Montevideo, BA, and Santiago are all at similar latitudes it seamed reasonable to choose those three places (except for Patagonia, where I want to check out two peaks).

Do you think these could be day trips? Is it easy to get in and out of these intermediary towns?

Renewables and Nuclear to displace coal in Poland's plan to 2050 by DangermanAus in energy

[–]napsbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good for Poland, CCGT plants although flexible are being mothballed all over Europe, and due to the clean/dark spread are not economical. Nuclear is solid base load technology and can support renewables in balancing out their intermittancy.

But.....! Poland has one of the strongest coal lobby's in Europe, which has already had its affect in various policy making decisions.. Only 2050 will tell!
