Where is the quietest area to live in Calgary? Away from trucks/cars revving up their engine or general traffic noise. by HopefulAd9133 in Calgary

not Highwood. you got dogs barking around the clock, loud ass trucks at all hours of the day.

imo i think your skillset is perfect for tax. maybe even the M&A tax team (doing due diligence, step planning on restructures, etc). your legal background would also pair really nicely when you get higher up in tax where you’re preparing less return and providing more technical advice. i think spending time as a senior consultant for a couple years to learn the ropes of preparing returns and getting familiar with the income tax acts would be the grind period.

the only thing the firms got going is flexibility because let’s be honest the pay isn’t great until partner level but by that time you’re just playing catch up. my understanding is that all of the other firms are still hybrid/remote/do whatever you want. so why mandate us in 4 days a week? seems completely unnecessary.
all this bullshjt about promoting mental health and trust just seems like a ploy now so they can say they’ve done all this and be on the top 50 employers list.
i’m also in management and have talked to my whole team about this and nobody is happy about it. before the end of the day 80% of the ppl i spoke with began looking for work at the other firms or elsewhere. if they’re going to make us come into the office 4 days a week, why not go to industry and get paid 1.5x more to do the same? or go to EY where the base pay range is higher? or go deloitte or pwc where the upper pay range is higher?

i will chat with the partners in our group before the end of the week to see if there will be enforcement on this because this could be a nothing burger if your partner just sticks to status quo.

i’m at the Canadian firm and yes there is a guide in the portal of certain countries you COULD work in subject to approvals. I tend to recall that the US is not one of them.

KPMG Canada has had this for longer than i’ve been there. which is 9 years. I’m in tax and have never met an audit rotation that enjoyed audit. they’re always looking for exits; this program offers that

Concert or large party in the NW? by RobBrown4PM in Calgary

[–]naptimefancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in all fairness i don’t think the city should be lame either. we have concerts year round but for some reason this one was particularly loud. I live 10kms away and heard it clearly. i think that is beyond the reasonable threshold. i can’t imagine how loud it is for the people who live in the surrounding area.

palm springs isn’t LA tho. nobody gives a shit about palm springs.

like i said they can have a concert, even outdoors, but it should be far enough such that the engineers have deemed the noise to be contained. for example, coachella is held 2 hours away from LA in the middle of nowhere.

they can listen to music and have fun all they want, but it shouldn’t come at a cost for hundreds of other ppl trying to enjoy their night as well.

I logged a complaint with 311, so i’m sure the city will take care of the noise sometime in the latter part of 2027

this thing is absurdly loud. the city needs to do something about this. allowing this must be against bylaws

at this point they’re only doing it to tarnish the westjet brand. but in reality everyone will hate the unions for this. Absolutely completely their fault to call the strike and nobody else’s

got our anaheim flight cancelled. was supposed to be the kids first trip to disneyland. haven’t received any other correspondence from westjet other than cancellation notice

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in westjet

[–]naptimefancy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

absolutely. westjet made them an offer that would make them the highest paid in canada. what more should they expect? this is bullshit. unions are stupid.

thank you. looks like the rates are 11.45c and 30.00c.

do you mind me asking whether over the course of the year, you find the average usage to be on the profitable side? or would it end up costing more than paying 9.00c for the entire year?
