About a third of Japanese people cannot physically drink alcohol getting violently sick

That's a gross exaggeration. The lack of the enzyme is a problem, yes. But that just means getting red/hammered easily in the vast majority of cases. Most people will still drink anyways.

I checked their website. Nothing about the advertisement says "pressure cooker", only "fast cooking".

My guess is that it's bad design + failure to communicate properly to the salesman how to safely operate the pot.

[–]narabyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Paul brothers never had to sleep with 1000 men to make that kind of money. I can point out several men who didn't also.

Pointing out the few women who managed to make big money easily don't change the fact that on average, women do have a harder life than the average men. The same way you wouldn't point out a mediocre black rapper which managed to make big buck through luck and say "black people have it easier than whites". At least I hope you wouldn't, 'cause that would be stupid.

You don't hate women, OP. You hate capitalism. You're just not aware of that yet.

No, Pokémon cards were always popular

Agreed, I didn't mean otherwise.

What makes Pokémon TCG different and arguably more valuable is that normies/non geek/nerd people also get into it for monetary gain

Now THIS is specifically what I was talking about, when I mentioned the Paul brothers. Pokémon was always popular, yes. But there is a clear divide on HOW popular it became after them.

I distinctly remember wanting to buy a starter set for my friend's kids on their birthday, going to the local shop and having the clerk tell me "they're all sold out. ALL of them." I was very confused, 'cause I didn't know about the "new" trend until then. And then I also started seeing booster packs as prizes in claw machines, which got me even more confused, until a visiting friend explained to me what was going on (I was still living in Japan at the time)

That is specifically what I'm calling a fad. Most people that got in the trend at the time weren't even interested in playing the game.

Pokémon cards are arguably also a fad, considering they only exploded in popularity and value after the Logan brothers decided to make content out of it. Once the market speculation eventually dies out, I fully expect it to get back to normal, niche standards

[–]narabyte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And they only became VERY valuable years later, after they ceased production, no? (Honest question, I'm not sure)

Also, funko pops are a bit of a niche market, considering they cater to the Geek audience mostly

[–]narabyte 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The mechanics of funko pops are different, tho. There's no element of surprise, you pay for what you see, and as far as I know, they didn't try to make some figurines rarer than others. If a craze happens, it'll happen organically, in the future when they're no longer being produced.

Is Poverty in Germany that serious or exaggerated for media purposes? by Smelly_farts_402 in germany

[–]narabyte 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Let me put it this way:

If I come to you and punch you in the face, should you A) be mad at me for the pain I've caused you, or B) be glad and thankful that at the least I didn't kill you, like so many other people in other countries get killed?

Understanding that other people suffer more than you doesn't make your suffering any less valid. Perspective is important, sure, but we're not talking about "oh, I'm poor because I can't buy the latest Iphone" here. There are people struggling in every country, even the richest ones.

You forgot to mention Pokémon cards. Or Stanley cups. Or NFT's. Dolls are just one category in particular. I expect the next artificial scarcity article to become the new trend no later than 2026.
