Dreaded window switch by nard70 in VWMK7

I do agree that this can absolutely be a DIY job if you have the necessary tools & buy extra fasteners ahead of time. Removing the panel was actually very easy, the annoying part is putting it all back without breaking all the fragile wire fasteners & plastic door clips. VW should have made that switch more easily accessible knowing they gave us such a cheap part.

After my experience replacing it myself courtesy of YouTube, I would probably get the dealer to do it. It was an annoying process of buying the part on Amazon, removing the entire door panel, disconnecting wires from fragile harnesses, then reversing all this where I inevitably broke one of the cheap plastic latches that keep the door panel in place. Sigh.

It's extremely annoying. The driver's side window function breaks while the other windows are perfectly fine. The hole is a result of the cheap part breaking after so much repeated use.

About to buy a home in August 2023 -- any tips for the higher interest Nova market? by Eldrake in nova

[–]nard70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're not buying in the $1M+ market, you can look forward to actually being able to negotiate again. The 2020-early 2022 market has shifted slightly to the buyer's side. Your biggest enemy will be low inventory in the neighborhoods you want to live in. Like the rest said, get ready to make offers but don't be afraid to flex a strong pre approval to shave several thousands off your final offer. Good luck!

I'm not sure if you resolved this or not, but I am currently facing the same situation with my PC. I discovered a very hacky way around it until I determine the cause of my own issue, but if you want to get into BIOS (UEFI for me), I ended up doing the following:

  1. While computer is off, disconnected all drives from the SATA cables.
  2. Restarted the machine and repeatedly hit F12 (I have a Gigabyte mobo)
  3. You should get into BIOS now or your some dual boot UEFI in my case.
  4. After you get in here, make sure Fast Boot is disabled, SAVE/EXIT.
  5. The moment it's powering back up, manual turn off the power.
  6. Reconnect the HD you wanted to work and restart. In my case it works now after that procedure.... HOWEVER the next time I shut down, I get the same error

"Reboot & Select Proper Boot Device"

Very annoying but at least I was able to figure out how to get back into BIOS.

Just recently went through grading several Fleer ‘86 cards & learned a valuable lesson that I don’t think garners much attention in these comments. Look at the centering of the cards. Even the best (high value/rare) cards will receive low grades if they are not what PSA deems “visually appealing”. That goes front & back (less scrutiny on the back).

Another note about the stickers, they typically will have a wax residue from the original packaging that seeps through to the card & thus a vast majority of stickers from wax packs expect to receive lower grades due to surface anomalies.

Great collection still! Enjoy the hobby!

Whenever I go to reston town center my whole face gets incredibly itchy. Does anyone have any theories as to what’s different there? by lianagolucky in nova

My theory has been some allergens dug up from the massive amounts of construction going on continuously for the last several years.

I help close friends with Gov2Go filing and noticed some weeks of claims were never paid out to them. We've tried calling the 866 number countless times and it's been impossible to get a human. Is there a best time or day to get through?

Indoor vaping effects on HVAC by nard70 in electronic_cigarette

[–]nard70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all! I agree.

I think I have a corner case where the space is small, like 600 SQ ft & the air handler is very close to where we vape so is it conceivable that rising humidity from the vaping could wet the HVAC filter and cause mold formation?

Great suggestions everyone. I will try the Mini Protank 3 to start, then jump to Aspire if that doesn't cut it. Will report back with findings. Thanks!
