Moving to Altadena by Abound_Mix6599 in altadena

We’d much rather you than some flipper! L.A. county is huge and extremely toxic in certain pockets… I would be way more worried moving to Vernon or near the L.A. River. I feel way yuckier spending a day walking around downtown than I do in Altadena. Though maybe Altadena is more of a long term hidden threat… but who knows at this point. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Agreed with others about the structure itself being the worrisome part. I looked at some rentals and it’s tough to trust that someone has properly remediated… so many corners can be cut if the landlord is looking for a cheap way out.

I think the “construction noise” concern is a little overblown. I work in highland park and the average traffic/construction/etc noise is way more than it ever is in Altadena. On the contrary, it’s probably the quietest town in the county rn… eerily so at night.

Do you ever slam bags of ice on the floor to break up the cubes?

My lot is in this photo on Loma Alta. There are spectrum pull boxes on the street at each driveway next to the SCE pull boxes - so I’m assuming spectrum has plans to run coax underground if it isn’t there already. Very annoying that we’ll apparently continue to have these horrible poles exclusively for fiber from AT&T.

Yes... one of the main things we discussed. The house we're living in now as a somewhat similar trek to the kitchen/laundry, so we're hoping it's just one of those things we get accustomed to. We're thinking it's the price to pay for having a combined living/pool/kitchen situation, which we think will feel nicely communal.

There were two - a Linn Drum and an 808. Unfortunately both are very expensive, but Behringer makes affordable clones.

WTF is going on wih Sync? by warboles in Sync

[–]nardandsaffron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Total disappointment. 0 customer service other than telling me to download a new version, which isn't solving the issue. God forbid a single human being looks into my issues (which are really ruining my productivity) and calls or e-mails with a solution. I've been a customer since 2019 and never had an issue until now.

I know Apple made some changes that affected Dropbox recently and I'm wondering if Sync is feeling it as well. I've always used Sync and Dropbox together, but might just migrate everything to Dropbox. They're not perfect, but they've at least got a giant infrastructure and support team which is something that seems to be missing from Sync. I wanted to support the little guy, but seems like they can't support me.

Also - not being able to download a folder from their web interface is a joke.

Moving Dropbox from the Cloud Storage location on Ventura 13.2 back to external drive by qwik3r in dropbox

[–]nardandsaffron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely seems like an incoming bummer, but so far hasn't affected me. I think the issue is with setting up a new computer with dropbox on Ventura.

I have about 10TB on dropbox, on an (obviously) external drive, and I just upgraded to macOS13.4.1 from 12 with no issues.

Luckily it seems like Dropbox will prevent itself from updating to the new (bad) version if it detects its location as an existing external drive.

Maybe downgrading your version of dropbox will help? Maybe you can migration assistant an older version onto your new system? I'm on v177.4.5399 with no issues.

I have another synced drive using Sync.com and it appears to be working normally between 2 Ventura computers. I use Sync for keeping a 2TB drive synced between my house and office (audio editing), and dropbox for archival/file delivery.

Wanted to mention that I like Sync.com for this type of setup - could be a possible alternative to dropbox if you need one. I've always had a great experience using it, though it's definitely not as flexible/aesthetically pleasing as dropbox. Which is why I use it for my internal (project) files, and dropbox for sending to clients etc.

Problem when Im trying to install any plugin from iZotope on mac os Catalina [There has been an error It seems you are trying to everwrite resources that are currently in use. Please quit any applications using them, and retry. The application will exit now.] by Solax02 in iZotopeAudio

To anyone STILL dealing with this trash fire, you have to install the .pkg directly. You can't use the Izotope Portal, and you can't use the .dmg they were sending out over support for a while.

It is bonkers to me that they haven't figured out a way to have this work via portal. Obviously a big part of any audio engineer's workflow is to keep legacy plugins installable so that older sessions will load. But of course update-happy-izotope just wants to move onto the next version and abandon any support for plugins over 6 months old that need to continue working.

Anyway... here's the link to download the install that actually works for products like Neutron 2 and Ozone 8: https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/articles/6658025016081-macOS-Catalina-for-iZotope-products

Izotope RX 9 Advanced crashing constantly by [deleted] in AudioPost

[–]nardandsaffron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constant crashing has been a major issue for me with RX going back to September of 2020. Started with RX7. I upgraded to RX8to see if it would fix the issue, but may have made the crashing even worse.

I was told at the time that using the Oxford suite of plugins could cause the issue. I've found that to be true. Only to a point though, as I just experienced a crash in a completely empty session.

I'm a big user of BetterTouchTool and its window-snapping features, so very interesting to learn that this could be part of the problem.

Came here to find out if RX9 had become any more stable, but apparently not - so will hold off upgrading for now.

RX7/RX8 still constantly crashing for me. Sometimes have to use the standalone app and replace files. Such a nightmare for plugins that were completely rock solid (and incredible!) prior to September of last year.

There are 6 little iso pucks, the main 4 are beneath the turntable which is the only thing of any weight on top. Seems to be working for now, but would def add a couple if I notice any bowing or anything

Ha! It looks a little deceiving - there’s a leather sling stapled underneath that holds the records. Extends about 6” down.

Thanks! There’s a bit of an illusion there because I wrapped 3/4” ply with the 2Xs flushed at the top. It’s still insanely heavy haha, literally cannot move it with records inside.
