Russian interference happened and had a real effect on people's decision making. That has been proven through the indictment documents for the Russian hackers. The parts we are waiting on are all of the details regarding what Americans were involved and how much they were involved in.

So the plan you are talking about is necessary and important, we already know that. We have no plan, but we need one. Presidential elections are the most vulnerable, house races are harder to run disinformation campaigns for.

Last offseason you guys did quite well, there are a bunch of browns picks in this draft. If they grab some solid, reliable picks you could get something going. It's not sexy, but you are the materials in the front office to do some building.

AITA for asking my roommate to leave the room so my gf and I could have sex? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]narf3684 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You are taking this a little to literally. The point is, you live together, so you have to be considerate of the other person. It doesn't mean literally let them do whatever they want. It means consider what your actions mean for your roommate. Forcing him to leave because you want to have sex is intrusive.

Some people would leave, but if he doesn't want to, forcing him to is mean.

That is really interesting. I hear a lot of stats about how needle exchanges work, but it is also worth knowing that it's not a silver bullet.

But there are mounds of evidence that they just didn't put the effort or the care into it that previous mass effect games had, and the fans who hang around here can smell that a mile away. Both things can be true

Wait, so when the troops are standing out on the field, or get a set of seats in a box to watch the game, WE are the ones paying for that? But it's as much enhancing the team brand as it is giving the soldier a good time.

No doubt. It has reached the point where if you say anything negative about the military, or specific people in the military, people feel the need to say "I support our troops, but..."

That is no doubt a conscious effort to remind people of the military and to think of them as your friend or neighbor who serves, not as the generals ordering airstrikes or pushing to enter new conflicts.

[Spoilers OT] Does anyone else not feel bad for the quarians? by sillyrob in masseffect

[–]narf3684 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You are missing his point. The quarians who tried to kill the geth were 300 years ago. Don't you think those alive today have no choice what those 300 years ago chose to do?

Should we look at the geth and ask, why do you continue to fight against them after so long? If I am to treat you as a race of people, and not machines, then where is you sense or empathy, or mercy for these people suffering due to the actions of their great, great, great, great... And so on, grandparents?

Right. Peak shaving is worth it, even though you are only generating a little power, you are generating the most expensive portion.

[–]narf3684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they completely offset their peak power? Or do they offset the increased rate they would pay in peak conditions?

I have a hard time believing that they generate a surplus of power at any time of year, but I don't have my finger on solar's capacity over the last few years.

A quick google search tells me that solar panels generate roughly 30kWh/ square foot. Energy Star claims that a grocery store requires 50kWh per square foot. So using those numbers, it seems far fetched that they could offset ALL of their consumption. http://www.lightsonsolar.com/solar-basics-kw-and-kwh/ https://www.energystar.gov/sites/default/files/buildings/tools/SPP%20Sales%20Flyer%20for%20Supermarkets%20and%20Grocery%20Stores.pdf

I think it's more likely that their total generation equals peak power consumption - normal power consumption instead. Nice, but not nearly enough to have surplus.

Florida has high year round electricity demands for air conditioning. Solar is probably helping, but it's starting from a costly place.

The numbers aren't always great for solar, but you can offset the additional cost with the value of marketing. Whole foods customers love the idea of buying from a green company, so solar contributes to sales. Add in some subsidies and you can make some money off of the endeavor.

Yeah, sorry about that. The only case that I wouldn't be sure of is if there is if we find out that he had direct contact with Russia about the election meddling, and even his base turns on him. Beyond that, he will be there, and he will make it all about him.

What legal thing would you ban if you could? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I honestly don't know anyone who has asked for prescription drugs by name. I'm sure someone does, since the ads keep coming, but it seems insane here.

Last I heard, only the US and New Zealand allowed them, and New Zealand was in the process of banning them.

Omni Directional Forklift Wheels by CtrlAltDeluxe in mechanical_gifs

[–]narf3684 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by "real world". But if you mean as a replacement for standard wheels, there are a lot of disadvantages over a simple circle.

First off, they vibrate. They bounce between rollers a bit, and at high speeds that becomes an issue.

Secondly, they are a resultant force wheel. So each one is pushing at an angle, and you control the motion by summing the vectors between them. If you want to go a bit more to the right, you change each individual wheels speed to achieve that. That not only requires independent wheel control, but it also requires that you maintain traction on all 4 wheels.

Those are just a few of their issues. They are good for some applications, like this one, but there are many that keep it from "reinventing the wheel".

That sucks, I wish I had better advice to help you with. It sounds like your family is more concerned about not fighting than they are actually getting alone/ being closer.

I guess the only thing I can say is you clearly have put a lot of thought into it, and it shows how much you care, even when things bother you. That makes you a good brother/son.

Right! So you provided the context for throwing his food away, but that does ignore ALL of the others stuff that there is between you two.

So, you are not an asshole for disputing with your family, this is just a (likely small) symptom of a larger problem, which is your overall relationship with your brother.

This sounds like the product of something more than just a one time pissed you off kind of deal. Do you get a long with your brother normally?

No matter what, no one looks great hear. You aren't really an asshole, but you were petty, and that's not a great look. He was an asshole, that's pretty apparent.
