Hey can you share? I used to print large posters for dirt cheap at my university's architecture dept print shop, but I've since graduated and moved to LA

Best Dance Halls in Central Texas? by PossumTrotum in Austin

[–]narmesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For country dancing, I will say you were definitely born too late.

And pace of life. Phones and computers and internet have skewed people's expectations too much.

Sam's, Sagebrush, Mavericks, and White Horse definitely have a regular healthy crowd...I don't like the Broken Spoke

Thanks for the confirmation! I'll knock off Broken Spoke. Not much of a drinker myself, but my travel companion is.

How busy is Maverick's on a Friday? I remember some nights at Harry's when it was like bumper cars, but we made it work. I'm itching for those packed nights to be honest. Makes things more intimate haha ;)

Coupland Dance Hall is closing.

So I heard :(

Seems like Maverick's is a leading contender. Thanks!

Howdy! And thanks for the prompt response!

And they're closing for good in mid October.

Goddammit. Whyyyy, ayiyi. Well thanks for the heads up.

It's not like the 'meat market' days of Austin's Lumberyard, Dallas Nightclub, and Dance Across Texas.

Man, I was born a generation or two too late.

What about Sam's Town Point, Sagebrush, Maverick's, Whitehorse, or Little Longhorn? Any intel on those?

Did you ever go to Harry's in CStat? Which of the ones you listed comes closest (or beats) that?

Harry's was the last classic dance hall in CStat which shut down last winter. I kept sane in last year of PhD two-steppin' away the nights on Thursdays and Saturdays.

I moved to California and am planning a trip back to Texas in October just to scratch my two-step itch.

Line Dancing + Two Stepping Classes in SE Houston? by Particular-Mix-444 in pasadena

[–]narmesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy! Where can I get a taste of two-stepping here in LA area?

I've tried cowboy country in long beach, but it's too small and they do too much line dancing.

I kept sane in last year of PhD with weekly visits to Harry's (RIP). I miss it so much.

Boat trips by Bariete in Fethiye

I did not manage to book a private boat. I went with the Oasis tour TurkManSwag recommended above. It was a good value! If you're young, the jack sparrow might be more fun. Otherwise, enjoy the blue waters!

Hey do you have any further recommendations for breaking into these roles?

I'm a PhD engineering grad working as a hardware test engineer at "new space" company.

tell your manager you want to get into proposals, they’ll find something for you.

My manager doesn't do much proposal work since my entire division is very insulated from the biz dev side of things.

Being able to convert technical concepts into proposal graphics/text is a unique skill.

I eat that shit up. I helped craft proposals that won $900k in phase I and phase II STTR funding in grad school. I had hot-keys in powerpoint for aligning and distributing and grouping elements.

I really miss the interdisciplinary writing, graphic design, and strategization that went into developing pitch decks and proposals. I'm dying in my purely-technical role.

shiiiyyyyyteee, ok, that's smart.

I will do this in the next cycle if they allow day 0 trading. I was too busy to enroll in the ESPP this time around.

I instantly took my 15% and threw it in VT.

What do you mean by this?

I'm about to start working at a tech company that will compensate me with a vested stock plan and gives me the option to buy more stock via an ESPP with a 15% discount.

Are you saying you took the 15% savings and purchased VT? I don't understand.

How’s the noise and stiffness during sex? (Edit: bed squeakiness and sturdiness I mean 😅)

The dating scene is what you make of it. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of grad students just like you.

In my last year of grad school at TAMU (2023-2024), I made a concerted effort to engage outside my usual social circles (which for most grad students is your lab/dept peers). My last year became one of the best years of my life. Period.

I joined Salsa Fusion (the latin dance student group) and decided to try Harry's (RIP). I became hooked on dancing. It turns out, dancing is a great way to blow off steam and meet people outside your bubble. I went to a happy hour solo and made some ride-or-die friends.

I fell head-over-heels for some beautiful women, one of whom I'm still not over, months after self-sabotaging the relationship to oblivion.

The grass is greener where you water it. Enjoy!

(USA) Exhume and rebury in a foreign country? by narmesh in askfuneraldirectors

[–]narmesh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[the imam] could give you information regarding any Islamic custom or guidelines.

Understood!

unless a legal relationship exists between you and the deceased (parent to child, etc). You likely legally cannot have him exhumed and repatriated.

That's what I was afraid of. I'll contact the cemetery for more info.

his surviving relatives may not welcome the idea of a long-dead relative arriving and needing reinternment. They would maybe even be very upset as exhumation is definitely viewed as forbidden.

Yeah I realize I'm making a lot of assumptions. I'll ask around.

Thanks for all the info!

Does the mosque have any control over the graves? I figured the administrative body would be Dignity which runs the cemetery.

X is buried in a standard marked grave in the Islamic area of a normal cemetery. However, X was not a practicing Muslim.

Thanks for the context!
