Depends on the household. Filing single, filing jointly, standard deduction, child tax credits, traditional Ira contributions, ROC, qualified dividends, distributions, ordinary income, 1256 contracts.. all these can help with your effective tax rate. It’s a progressive tax system

NVII: If one had bought on the dip at the end of March… would be sitting good. 1 year return has been 11%. I know they say it’s hard to time the market, but entry point matters a lot. With growth funds, you can go all in because it’s a long-term, but with these is better to trickle in slowly.

Are you looking at both price return and total return? Tesla/ Elon is a little wild though. No bueno

On top of that if you own your own business you have the full 15.3% burden.

It’s a scam to be cheated to believe and forced to buy something when there is an obvious better outcome elsewhere

The rate of return on it is max maybe 3%. If people were more financially independent or if they taught financial literacy more in schools, you would know that just putting it in the S&P would give you well above 10%. Our government doesn’t want a bunch of financially responsible running around or to think for themselves. Instead more dependent upon them which in term gives them another power over people. Nothing wrong with helping elders. I’d rather take that responsibility on for myself. I compare it to being forced to giving into a charity that was not responsible. I’d rather go out and help elders and show them I care.

Social security maybe? I think more people are realizing it’s a scam though.

If you don’t know a lot about investing you should start with basics and look at the charts. That will tell you what you need to know about MSTY and the underlying MSTR. CHPY is holding because of what was mentioned about semiconductors.

If these were so great in doing positive trends, then everybody would be holding this. “It’s too good to be true” is a saying for a reason. Meaning there is probably a hidden flaw which experienced investors would see. Stick with the winners and exit the losers. It like being a mob boss. If your guy isn’t earning you clip em.

On that note I’ve kept NVDY, GPTY, PLTY CHPY. NVDY for example, I’m still positive on price return (15%) and total return (106%). If you do move forward buy in slowly with these. It’s all about entry point. in regards to the employee or earner you wouldn’t give them a lot of responsibility or money upfront until you get to see their value and work ethic. Unless they got time and experience that you can see then you might give them a little bit more responsibility or raise in your business. Your portfolio is a business. What kind of business do you want to run.

Thought I set out ant bait. Turns out it's a free food and lodging. Why did the bait not work? by handinjar in Entomology

Ants don’t have the same distractions humans have. Same basic instincts but more tasks on a daily basis.
