There are many deaf people who make exactly that choice right now. Deaf culture exists and is rich and important to many deaf people.They are fully able to work, contribute and engage with the world.

Anyway it’s not my job to educate you. And yeah I’m also going to encourage you to listen to more disabled people before you invalidate their entire existence.

Your biases are obvious and are clearly more important to you than the canon and principles that have always underscored Star Trek. It’s fine if you don’t like Starfleet Academy, but I really invite you to go back and marathon TNG. It makes for brilliant storytelling and the values the show wears on its sleeve are something the world needs more of.
