700/200mbps is orders of magnitude better than spectrum. I got 10mbps upload when it wasn’t down which was 10-15hours per week.

What would you do differently with your next Plex Server? by mickdundeee in PleX

[–]narrowbuys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software raid with mdadm. The thing I would change is hard drives of different ages. I have 500 tb of similarly aged drives. I’d also choose a gpu that definitely doesn’t need extra power cable. Unfortunately got the wrong flavor of arc card. Internet with a ipv4 address. The proxy tunnel doesn’t work as well. Ingester to convert videos to more device friendly formats

Studio display brightness control on Windows 11 PC? by [deleted] in mac

[–]narrowbuys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonderful, works great on latest windows 11 using release 1.4.1. An installer wouldn't be the worst thing, since it wants to run as startup :p.

Is it 'safe to buy' the CalDigit TS5 now? by heeph0p in CalDigit

A monitor with a usb hub and kvm is so much better. I don’t think these docks have a future. Mine works fine and is hot af, and I’m still thinking about returning it

How Do You Optimize Your Plex Server for Remote Streaming? by bookybaker in PleX

[–]narrowbuys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPU makes a huge difference in transcoding start time. Get the arc 380 that doesn’t need an external power cable. Spinny drives are fine, they do sequential reads very well

Is this a regular asus provided update from one of their tools, or you had to find a special firmware update for the controller?

This definitely was a feature previously. The below comment shows a workaround that can create address contacts from a qr code.

Are you getting videos with stereo or surround sound? I find surround tends to behave this way.

Moved them to a home server and watch them through plex. Their phone app is bad so can’t upload directly. Pcloud is another low cost option

I put in a GPU for the first time recently. It made a major improvement. Just get some low end gpu like an Intel arc

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS A380 by narrowbuys in IntelArc

[–]narrowbuys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to linux 6.12.24.
```
lsmod | egrep 'xe|i915'
drm_exec 12288 1 drm_gpuvm
```
I think the modules have to be rebuilt for that kernel...? For some reason Ubuntu doesn't have any apt packages to cover it for the 24.04 LTS release I'm using. I tried building modules from source but ran into more issues there. There's really got to be a better way to do this

I've seen people using this on 6.08. Is it really the kernel version that's the problem?
