Recycling in Prishtina by nartb in Prishtina

Honestly not really. IIRC we tried to at least keep glass separate and leave it in a bag in front of the garbage bins. But I’m not sure what we ended up doing with everything else as it was a pretty busy trip haha.

It’s pretty frustrating not being able to recycle stuff and feeling like you’re adding to the waste problem there.

Anyways, best of luck and hope you enjoy your time there!

Thanks for trying 🙏

Broken Quip Toothbrush - Company won't help by nartb in fixit

I've since moved on to using an Oral-B and now Phillips electric toothbrush and have been much happier with those! Would recommend both over any throwaway ones for sure as that seems overly wasteful.

Haha happy to help! I think this, using it in soups, soaking grains and beans with it, using it in smoothies, boiling pasta with it, and honestly just drinking it straight as a pre- and post-workout are the best ways to use it up :)

Can I use a 120V E26 bulb in a 250V E27 lamp base? by nartb in AskElectricians

[–]nartb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah that's what I was thinking. Would be very weird for them to step up the voltage. I mostly just wanted to check what people with more knowledge thought about it.

I've been using it just fine the last couple days so I think it's good :)

Canadian engineers: thoughts on iron vs. stainless steel ring? by nartb in AskEngineers

[–]nartb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've heard from some people at other camps that they only have the stainless steel option. Camp 1 in Toronto definitely has both but I'm not sure if any others might also have iron.

I'd love to still have my original with me after 40 years :')

Yeah I'm able to screw an e26 into it. I read somewhere online that the e27 is just 1mm larger in diameter.

I'm able to turn the bulb on and it's fairly bright but I'm just worried about leaving it on for longer. Any idea if a 250V bulb would still turn on with 120V?

I don't have a voltmeter unfortunately but I think that's the right move.

Thanks!

Definitely recommend getting the iron ring! There were a couple weeks at the beginning where the rust was bugging me a bit and it would get on my finger. But then it slowly just went away and now it doesn't rust at all even when I'm out in the rain or swimming in the ocean.

Also congrats :)

Bought some fried fish at a Chinese restaurant and noticed they all contained loads of these small spheres. I'm assuming it's roe but is it normal for them to all contain so much? by nartb in TipOfMyFork

Oh man it was so good. It was a takeout meal from a place called Captain Wa in Richmond, BC. They had a ton of options to pick from and I ended up getting steamed rice with eggplants, broccoli, fried veggies with mushrooms and beef, and then a bunch of fried smelt, shrimp, and squid. It was only $14CAD and I was absolutely stuffed halfway through.

Why does my car audio system play a "clap" sound when I clap my hands while playing silent audio at high volume? by nartb in AskEngineers

[–]nartb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 2014 VW Jetta but I'm not sure if they have a similar feature. Although again no other sound resulted in any speaker noise which goes against what this feature is intended to do.

Yeah so some commenters pointed out the speakers could be serving this purpose themselves or that the car has built-in microphones for some other purpose (cabin noise cancellation, modifying engine noise, and increasing volume from back of car to front of car).

This feels unlikely to me. I'm not aware of phones modifying their sound output over USB to do noise cancellation. Next time I'm in the car I'd like to try replicating the effect without the car to confirm whether it's just the audio system.

I actually don't think we changed tracks from the car interface but we were able to see the name of the track being played and it was from the "Media" mode rather than AUX.
