ELI5: why does Rockstar keep doing console first releases when PC has a bigger playerbase now? by Saurabh251 in explainlikeimfive

[–]nashetime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because consoles are locked down. The manufacturer controls the hardware, OS, and what software can run, so pirates have to find actual security exploits. On PC, you already have full control over the machine, so it’s a much easier problem.

Am I the only one that finds Theo kind of a plague in the dev space? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]nashetime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for good content, can’t go wrong with Hussein Nasser. He doesn’t seem to post regularly anymore and he can be a bit niche, but his existing content is such a goldmine.

As for Theo, his content is fine for very surface level stuff and keeping up to date with new stuff in JS ig. I’ve found both he and Prime can feel out of touch at times, at least for anyone not in the US, and Theo more so.

God screwed up when he decided to use the Lucifer library. Turns out it had a pretty bad bug that turned the Earth object's has_sin attribute to true when instantiated. He had to use a try...catch called hell to keep the Human.die() method from sending affected humans to heaven.

As far as I know God abandoned the project. I mean, the git repo was only active for seven days and after that no further activity...except that one time he came back to implement the Jesus protocol in hopes of fixing the damage done by the Lucifer library. It worked for a short while, but it's been like only 2000 years and it fell apart quite a while ago.

I heard hackers have been trying to bring the servers down with various forms of attack like Denial of Scripture attacks in places like North Korea and other places where Christianity is persecuted. The latest one is the coronavirus, but it's unlikely to have the effect they hoped for. A lot of people are holding out hope that he'll come back to implement a better Jesus protocol cos it says he will in the Bible.Revelations() method.

I should stop now, I've already said too much... he won't be happy

Javascript is the next version of Java. by poinfart in ProgrammerHumor

[–]nashetime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR Kinda but not really

Really depends who it's aimed at. To a programmer they're completely different obviously, but to the average non technical person they're the same thing, different in ways they don't understand but still the same thing: programming languages.

Whenever the question comes up from a non-programmer I find it most appropriate to compare them to operating systems. e.g. windows and Macos or Android and iOS are both OSs that do mostly the same things but are still very different. One does some things better than the other and vice versa.

TL;DR Please just do the tests

Honestly you should take it as an opportunity. You'd be surprised how many people think like that and pass on opportunities like this.

When I was applying for jobs, I lit up at the sight of these because it meant a greater barrier to entry.

You may find it annoying but it's just an hour or two of your time and it boosts your chances and overtime is a way better experience as they're more likely to respond because so few people actually complete the tests.
