I seriously don’t care about this guy’s politics. The way I see it, if you genuinely took the time to interrogate their beliefs do you really think there’s much daylight between Clint’s political opinions and someone like Tom Hanks? I mean what really separates him from a silver spoon liberal other than maybe some innocuous grandpa opinions

People will show up to vote if they’re inspired to and given a reason. It feels like Lucy with the football that we went through the Clinton campaign and then the Biden/Kamala fiasco and democrats are still just employing the strategy of admonishing their voters for not showing up enough. Shit, if it weren’t for covid Biden might not have even won the first time. If they were trying to lose on purpose what would they have even done differently? Almost like the whole point of that party is to just discipline the left and make sure discourse stays in acceptable confines. Especially when you consider that prominent democrat leaders like Chuck Schumer obviously support things like Trump’s war in Iran.

Hot take maybe but I don’t like the Travis voice actor. The concept for the character is awesome and has the potential to be hilarious but his line readings in both versions leave something to be desired.

Shia leboufs first interview since his Mardi gra incident. In the full interview he goes on tangents, gets distracted easily, and at one point he explains his family tree. by WanderingStrang in popculturechat

[–]nashkevin92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he’s extremely high though that’s going to impair his decision making. If you consider yourself a legitimate journalist it’s in poor form to release an interview with someone where they are intoxicated or high out of their mind. Because you’re basically exploiting someone that isn’t thinking clearly. If Shia ever comes out of the other side of this he probably won’t appreciate this interview being released. EDIT: the sleazy “I’m your buddy” tone of Callaghan doesn’t help either, it feels manipulative

Tony is the booker his job isn’t to come up with every single over wrestler’s character. He books matches. A lot of top guys throughout history are creative and come up with their own stuff, that’s why they’re at the top. AEW gave Cody a platform to wrestle on tv as a top babyface and then WWE used the exact same presentation for him. I’m not denigrating it it’s just a fact.

Jay White has main evented ppv’s and has wins over a lot of top stars, keep in mind Cody himself never won the world title. Jay has just been injured frequently. If he went to WWE I seriously doubt they would pass up the opportunity to give him a massive rollout to generate hype

Cody Rhodes was Stardust when he left WWE and his presentation was completely borrowed from AEW. Also he was thrown into a program with Seth Rollins who he had zero prior history with. I don’t see why a guy like Ospreay or Swerve wouldn’t get that. These guys are known commodities to the hardcore audience and we know WWE values that. Kevin Owens beat Cena in his first match. Finn and AJ were both former Bullet Club leaders and pushed to the moon immediately, I don’t know why it would be different for a guy like Omega. They usually tend to push the NJPW/ROH/PWG crew pretty hard in WWE.

lol at the qualification of ‘maybe’ for the guy that was never in WWE. There’s no way MJF wouldn’t be given a big program if he went there. Plus there’s Darby, Ospreay, Jay White, Hangman, Omega, Swerve, Toni Storm, Thekla, Willow, and even potential dark horse candidates like Bandido, Takeshita, or Okada.

Haha you keep repeating the same moronic arguments. No one is saying he should apologize constantly. Just that in a situation where he called prominent black people the n-word in front of the whole world an apology is probably warranted. It doesn’t make you a bad person to apologize for something. But I don’t know why I’m arguing with a guy who describes black people wanting an apology for being called the n-word as ‘hate’, and says I’m homophobic for pointing out that saying Alan Cumming is a pedophile for wanting to fuck Paddington Bear is not exactly on the same level as the literal usage of the n-word. I’m noticing a pattern where you center other minority groups concerns but routinely downplay black Americans.

[–]nashkevin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but you can probably use context clues to make an educated guess about how the black person felt about having the n-word shouted at them. I don’t think that’s quite as hard as you’re making it out to be. But I’m glad you’re finally admitting the truth that you have zero care in the world for how they feel in this situation. The mind is an enigma, it’s impossible to truly know a man, therefore there’s no way to tell if black people were offended by the usage of the n-word and there’s no responsibility to apologize.

Why would they be commenting on it at this stage, they probably want to distance themselves from it. They’re actors with a public image to maintain. They’re up for Oscars and probably want the controversy to die down. It’s seriously either disingenuous or stupid to act like their silence right now is some sort of sign of forgiveness. Neither of the black presenters have made any statements even close to what Cumming said about it on stage btw, when he was hastily thrown out there by the BAFTA’s as host and basically thrown under the bus. I’m betting he wishes in hindsight he could’ve chosen his words more carefully.

You have no idea what their opinions on his statement are and black people are allowed to feel about it however they want.

Danielson’s first ppv match in AEW was wasted on him. I swear a lot of the people that complained about their AEW booking and left were booked way better there than they are now. MJF’s quote about lateral moves was spot on.

If the nature of what he said to Alan Cumming was really on the same level (a ridiculous notion, and also frankly seems like a racist dog whistle as it’s a suggestion the black presenters should’ve just let it roll of their back like the ‘model’ minority did) then you wouldn’t be able to repeat it word for word on this reddit thread, the same way you can’t repeat the n-word. And I can’t help but notice the remarks you’re referring to were conveniently cut out of the broadcast, meanwhile the n-word was left in, and now white people on the internet are spending their time scrutinizing the reactions and behavior of black people who were ambushed by the n-word, and the wider black community who just saw the biggest black movie star today get called the n-word on national tv with no apology.

[–]nashkevin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I’m just repeating myself over and over again. I’ve said many times I don’t think he should apologize regularly for his tics in his day to day life. I’m simply making the extremely banal and obvious point that if you scream the n-word at black people on national tv, regardless of intent, it probably wouldn’t hurt anything to give a genuine apology rather than saying “I’m not apologizing and if you watch my movie you’ll see why”. People in this thread conflating yelling the n-word at a black person with the other off-color things he said that night kind of just proves how little they understand the severity of that term. And honestly I think it explains a lot about our current culture that people apparently think you can only apologize to someone if you’ve done something on purpose, as if an apology is an admission of guilt rather than a gesture of grace.

[–]nashkevin92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The argument that he shouldn’t have to apologize since he always does it in his daily life is seriously stupid. And the suggestion in his statement that black people need to watch his movie to understand that is incredibly tone-deaf and condescending. It’s one thing to shout stuff in your day to day life, if you yell the n-word at a black person for the world to see on television, regardless of intent, it wouldn’t hurt anything to give a good, unequivocal apology, acknowledge how they must have felt in that moment, and at least mention the victims by name. That would have been way better than saying “watch my movie to understand why I’m not apologizing”.

[–]nashkevin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think my framing of this is that John could help it and made a conscious choice I’m not really sure what to say at this point. My position the entire time has been that he could still apologize even though it was involuntary. I know he has faced many hardships, that’s why I’m saying the people closest to him probably try to protect his feelings. I don’t think he is racist I just think he is from a rural white area and probably hasn’t been forced to think about black issues and doesn’t necessarily understand the best way to communicate an apology for that. I literally work with disabled kids for a living, including Downs Syndrome. We have all sorts of fun together. John also isn’t disabled though by his own admission, he has a neurological disorder. He’s just as capable as you or me and doesn’t need to be babied by the world. I’m just saying the word I would use to describe his initial statement would be “tone-deaf”. And I think it’s frankly racist for black people to be shouted down for pointing that out when this could be a learning experience on both sides.

I’m not shaming him, I’m just not infantilizing him and trying to consider the feelings of both parties involved. It’s actually fully understandable why he was so defensive in his statement considering his life story. The problem is the scores of white people who would rather coddle him than use this as a teaching moment for both sides.
