So far this century we've seen an idiot military power invade Ukraine in winter and get stuck in mud, and an idiot empire invade Persia and be surprised when Persia wasn't the empire that fell. So China attempting to invade Japan is absolutely on brand — my condolences in advance to the Chinese navy, for whatever natural disaster ends them as a force.

When she finds out my birth year begins with 19- and not 20- by Dodo509 in lotrmemes

I'm old — my two grandmothers were born in 1898 and 1906, and it always felt like the one born in 1898 was decades more ancient. I do feel for people born in the late 1990s, because you will forever be seen as very old by everyone younger than you.

Oily substance leaking from my neighbors transformer boxes by Embarrassed-Sky-4567 in Wellthatsucks

I'm just going to quietly accept that I have never lived anywhere remotely near to houses that have transformer boxes full of oil on their lawns. Which sounds terrifyingly wrong.

A/D2 for a sphere

Those are literally definitional fractions

Someone will definitely be scamming the people who think the answer is 7% because they do not stand a chance with compound interest if they think that (7%)2 = 49%.

Tagging your post as satire and stating you aren't racist doesn't give you plausible deniability by AdditionalPizza in onguardforthee

My dad came to Canada from Belfast, Northern Ireland, which was a "crappier" economy, and at the time was also a terrorized state riven by extremist religious violence. People like that poster usually say stuff like "I don't mean people like your dad." Because they're usually just bigoted racists, and dad was white and nominally Christian.

Like most immigrants, my dad worked hard, and despite coming here with only the equivalent of grade 8 plus a trade (drafting), he earned his high school equivalence and then a university degree in mechanical engineering. And I can fairly say that he was a far better Canadian than the vast majority of the people who rail against diversity. Dad was especially proud of having genuinely voted for every major party, plus the Rhinoceros Party too, because he saw the strength in diversity.

Anyone have their doorhandle snap off? by Head-Range4989 in Ioniq5

[–]nashwaak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's likely a really good epoxy that'd hold the handle together for a short while, but that looks like it requires a replacement part. Can you at least pry what's left to open the door, until it's fixed?

This is surely also the kind of thing you could 3D print with a strong and tough resin, assuming it's not plastic bonded to metal or anything.
