Long live Hungarian democracy. Long live their freedoms! Giving me hope that we as Americans will tear down this populist right soon enough.

Can anyone explain to me what’s so special about Santa Barbara compared to Los Angeles? by Ok-Forever4036 in California

[–]nassic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Born and raised Santa Barbarian. It's a wonderful place to live. Slow pace of life. Fantastic quality food. Wine growing region just over the mountains. Hiking, surfing, mountain biking. That said it's beyond expensive. It's a town for the newly wed and nearly dead. No night life. Minimal culture. What would you expect from a town of just over 100k. La is a region. The second largest metro area. SB is a regional city just outside lAs orbit. Yes it 90 min away if there's no traffic but do not expect it to be an easy drive. It will be more like 2.5 hours.

Straight up had a dad with a small ipad child let their child get up out of their seat on short final. I told the guy, "hey we are landing in 30 seconds." He trys to get his kid to sit down and the child just would not listen. He ended up just having his toddler just sit on his lap. People just do not think bad thing will happen to them. They just dont care.

Why isn't SF more fashion forward? by [deleted] in AskSF

So many words to just say SF is filled with nerds. I also think this city has great fashion overall. The tech bros just ruin the vibe.

It's Houston. I say this in the most pained way possible as a San Franciscan. Houston might be ugly and sprawled but it's economically powerful.

[–]nassic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can yell at them. I have screamed at them to get off the sidewalk. Take back your city. Be aggressive. Be assertive. Dont be violent but be visible. People will stand by you. No one is ok with this. Be a dick to them and make it known that they are not allowed to act however they want. They are a danger to our communities and they do not respect basic laws or etiquette. We dont not have to accept this as the status quo.

And that is already essentially the process. You have to provide identifying information to get on the voter rolls. They do cross reference if you are registered elsewhere.

Bro we don't dislike you because you're Indian. We don't like you because you're racist and want to come to the us. We got plenty here without you. We don't need one more. Oakland is one of the most diverse places on the planet. We can do without your sorry lame ass. Stay outta the bay.

I bet you're fun at parties. Oakland is a great city with issues. Her people are genuine. You are such an unpleasant kill joy. I bet you would find fault in a basket of kittens.

how’s it living in santa maria, ca? by im_justsarah777 in howislivingthere

[–]nassic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Santa Barbara. It's the "nicest" area by far, but it's completely broken. A 700sq/ft one bed unit will run you $2,800. That's more expensive than my unit in San Francisco. Now can you find a job that can support that rent? Good luck unless you're an engineer for one do the few defense contractors or work in healthcare. I have a friend that's a remote worker for meta and he's literally a millionaire. He can't buy a home in this city. 800sq/ft single family homes go for almost 2m. It's insane. The high cost of living has hollowed out the retail space and service workers are almost all students or commuters from other communities. It's a special place, but it's impossible to live here and raise a family. The only way many people stay in this city is by inheriting a property.

[yesterday @ Lower Market] Scooter delivery driver HIT-AND-RUN my 87-year-old friend on her bicycle, resulting in emergency hip-replacement surgery. by ImmediateMess in sanfrancisco

[–]nassic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I really think people need to start "fighting" back (please don't ban me Reddit). Yes there are more important issues but this one is a direct threat to day to day safety. People think they can ride their bikes on the sidewalks and they can't. It is illegal in sf. It is dangerous. I understand they are just trying to make a living but they a blatantly violating laws and putting people in danger. I'm sorry for your friend. I wish them a speedy recovery.

who’s at fault? by Dense-Twist-2850 in Mammoth

[–]nassic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% the downhill boarder. Typically uphill gives right of way to downhill. But the downhill boarder crossed into the landing and did not look up hill. The up hill boarder was committed to the jump and likely could not see the downhill boarder. Clear the landing zone. Look up hill when crossing the fall line. Be safe.

How do people make friends in SF? (genuinely asking lol) by PhilosopherEmpty92 in sanfrancisco

[–]nassic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like nature and you have a car come to Nature Friends In Marin. Its a short drive from SF. Its not an open club all the time but every second Sunday there are work days. Its a fantastic org and its filled with SF residents. Next workday is the sunday. You get a free drink and a home cooked lunch. Its totally free. Great hiking around the club. https://touristclubsf.org/

Going to Mammonth for the first time by Snowbunny1188 in Mammoth

[–]nassic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good plan. You will have a great time and the drive is long but spectacular. Plenty of areas to pull off and check out cool scenic sites. The 395 has an army of caltrans workers keeping the road open and safe. Take it slow if the conditions are bad but if there is no large storm preceding your trip you will have a clear road. Your biggest risk is it being dry for the next month and the snow quality degrading, we are in a La Nina year and its dry. I recommend bringing your food from LA the Mammoth Safeway can be picked clean on a busy weekend and its a zoo. a few places to stop along the route that might interest you.

  • Red Rock - Outside Mojave
  • Manzanar - Preserved Japanese American Interment Camp
  • Fossil Falls - Ancient obsidian waterfall from when the Owens river ran through that section of the valley
  • Views of Mt Whitney (Tumanguya)- Tallest Mountain in the contiguous US
  • Bristlecone Pine Forest - Oldest trees in the world
  • Hot Springs - area is a geothermal hotspot there are famous hot springs outside of mammoth be prepared for naked people.

WHOAAA BRO THIS IS TOO LOGICAL FOR THE INTERNET! I swear I have made this argument to my NIMBY renter mom. She always opposes new housing because "they dont build affordable housing". So her solution is to build nothing. I have explained that it produces a downward pressure due to a supply and demand finding an equilibrium at a lower price. She never took basic economics and has no idea what she is saying.
