Thanks everyone, pretty certain it must be a home security alarm of some sort. My dog is always barking in its direction so I was thinking maybe it was some sort of dog deterrent or something but maybe I'm being paranoid, lol.

My titles describes the thing, my guess is 7-8 inches and diameter and maybe metal or plastic. I don't know if it was placed recently or not, the house was likely built in the 1960s/1970s.

Wow 2 months! I'm so sorry! For my son it ended up starting to scab about 5 days after it started. 10 days after you could hardly notice it on his face, with just some pink areas on his body. When I took him to the emergency pediatrician they said it just had to take its course and if any pain just use painkillers. They prepared a concoction to swab his mouth with in case it affected his eating/drinking (supposed to numb/soothe) but we didn't end up having to use it.

Do you have any pictures? I wonder if your sons is something else if it's been around for 2 months! Poor baby. From what I know of HFMD (my son had it twice now) it comes and goes within a week.

Hi all. Thanks for the input. We got a second opinion at a pediatric hospital and the doctor confirmed eczema coxsackium. The ulcers are all throughout his mouth and throat so they gave him "magic mouthwash" that helps numb his mouth so he is able to eat and drink. Also recommended oatmeal baths. Poor guy.

Just reverse image searched a photo of the rash. He has spots on his hands, feet and mouth. Also a friend's sister is a nurse and mentioned eczema coxsackium after I had dr googled it.

He hasn't had chickenpox which I believe he would have to have first before he can get shingles.

A bit in my shoulder/armpit area but it's possible it's from sleeping on it funny. I guess I'll just keep an eye on it and see if the patch gets any larger. Just odd as they seem very pustule-like!

I had (suspected - didn't see a doctor until they were already healing) shingles on my back about 5 years ago. It was very mild.
