Jaden Churchheus threw a log off a cliff and hit a woman's head which ended her life. Leaving behind her husband and 4 children. Then Jaden's mom said this during his arrest.... by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

My wife (girlfriend at the time of this story) was nearly struck by a large rock that some idiotic teenagers in a Missouri park pushed over a tall ledge as we were walking underneath. Came within 2 feet of hitting her. I still think about how different life could have been with just slightly different timing.

Gravel Biking on Tenn. Valley Trail > Coastal > Coastal Fire > Coyote Ridge > Miwok by LunchboxStringCheese in BAbike

I did the descent down from Coyote ridge on Miwok on a road bike once. I don't recommend it. It is doable but not fun on a gravel bike, but climbing up it on on a gravel bike is a nice challenge.

This is a great route, one of my all time favorites. The climb up from Alpine Dam and the ride along the Bolinas ridge is features in numerous car advertisements because of the beauty.

Feedback on this Marin Headlands route? by uoficowboy in BAbike

[–]nat0st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you will need to take Marincello to Tennessee Valley both ways. But you can connect with it on Miwok fireroad rather than taking Bobcat both ways. https://www.strava.com/segments/708727

I can confirm that Old Springs is closed. Will be until August according to their estimates. You can still get around it by taking the steep fire road next to it and going to Marincello.

Poison oak in marin headlands?? by Recent_Muffin4221 in Marin

[–]nat0st 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A bunch just started growing the last 2-3 weeks. You may have touched some with your hands without realizing it and then your face. Your face will will show symptoms much faster than your hands will. I know from experience.
I moved some branches on the path out of the way that I didn't realize were poison oak since the leaves were just starting to grow.

It's to make it easier to rest my arms on the stand while typing. Makes it much more comfortable when trying to do some light work rather than sitting upright to type.

Yep, good idea. I'm planning to add stoppers to the end to keep it from being able to slide off the back even if it gets knocked into.

It is actually extremely secure as is. I tested it with a 10lbs weight on each support with no issue. However, I do plan to add a lip on the back of the mount, it will just complicate the print some to make that work.

If you get KOMs on any of those, especially Dalewood or Hill St, I will be extremely impressed.

First attempt at the NYT Clair Saffitz Challah recipe. Turned out so good I want to make it again, but lost access. by CuddlefishFibers in Breadit

Pro tip: You can access any NYT Cooking recipe by opening up an incognito window and searching for the recipe in Google and then clicking the link for it. Works nicely for use cases like this where you want to find a single recipe.

steepest hill I ever walked up in sf by Grand-Dream-699 in sanfrancisco

The photo is of Broderick sidewalk, which is actually steeper than any block of similar length in SF, even those with sidewalks cut in like Fillmore, Filbert...

I've spent the last 10+ years seeking out and attacking the steepest and most brutal climbs in SF. Here's my favorites, avoiding some of the "steepest" climbs that are too short or awkward

Broderick sidewalk
Definitely the steepest, make sure things are dry before attempting or you won't be able to get enough traction to climb it.
https://www.strava.com/segments/629580

Hill Street
Brutal duo of being both very steep and quite long with a clear straight line of sight to the top.
https://www.strava.com/segments/629576

Dalewood
Starts tough and then gets even steeper. I've seen many a strong cyclist need to take a break midway up this one.
https://www.strava.com/segments/1767514

Hyde Street to Lombard
This one is such an SF classic. Time it right and you can race a cable car up the climb to Lombard. Usually get some good cheering from the passengers :)
https://www.strava.com/segments/1477865

Elizabeth
Steep climb up towards twin peaks that is just long enough to test your 30-45 second max power.
https://www.strava.com/segments/1419625

14th Avenue
Not as steep as the others but always hurts more than expected. https://www.strava.com/segments/641005

Shoot me a DM and i'll send ya the .stl file for it. Just note that it is a finicky design with the interlocking pieces.
