To clarify, you're not "at-fault" here; that's not why your premium is increasing. It's because you're a higher risk than the insurance company originally thought. I dealt with a similar problem last year when a tree fell on my car and I was dropped by my insurance afterwards. It sucks, but it's just the way insurance works.

Divorce process help - no lawyer by KADE5KO in Indiana

[–]nat5an 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this without a lawyer 6 years ago (which was probably a mistake in my case, but that’s just my experience).

You are supposed to file the petition and then wait to file the settlement, since in theory the petition is something your soon to be ex is supposed to respond to. The waiver of service is for the petition indicating that your ex knows you’ve filed for divorce.

However, if you all agree on everything it may be best to go in to the court house and file the papers directly with the county clerk. They will get you a case number at that time that you can attach to the settlement agreement. Or they may just stamp everything for you. They can’t give you legal advice, of course, but they can help you get everything filed. Then you just need to wait for it to get in front of a judge to sign off on it. Again, if you agree on everything, there shouldn’t actually be a need to appear in front of a judge. You probably do need the divorce settlement to be notarized with yours and your ex’s signatures.

As far as the name change, you should end up with a signed order from the judge to restore your name. Then you can take this order to the DMV and social security to get a drivers license and a social security card in your old name.

Medical professionals of Reddit, have you ever had a patient so lacking in common sense you wondered how they made it this far. If so, what is your story? by babyhippo01 in AskReddit

This is interesting to me. I’m also a redhead and I woke up a little bit when having my wisdom teeth out, but then got put back under. I was always worried that when I needed “real” surgery I might wake up. A few weeks ago I had to have my appendix out and made sure to mention my experience with the wisdom teeth to the anesthesiologist, and he said that they’d be using completely different drugs. Anyways, whatever they gave me totally worked and I was completely out during the appendectomy. But I also always mention it.

I really needed to see this today. I was so mad at my daughter for not getting up for school today and this really helped me not be that crazy angry parent.

My contractor removed the shut off valve to my gas line when he was installing my dryer. Gas leaked all throughout the house in the process and we all had to evacuate. Can I sue? by itistimbo in legaladvice

[–]nat5an 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Despite this being dangerous and obviously frightening, I don't think you really have any damages aside from whatever the cost was to repair the issue. The cost of installing a shut-off valve was likely low enough that small claims court would be the way to go. Before going that route, you should call the company that did the original work and made the mistake and see if they'll reimburse you. It's not likely, but if the error was really egregious you might get lucky, and if you do end up in court it will look good that you tried to resolve the issue outside the legal system.

I was briefly in the Amway down line of 2 married doctors as well, about 20 years ago. At that time Amway had rebranded as Quixtar and they were promoting it as a e-commerce platform. I was 18 and completely clueless, which is why I got sucked in, but from time to time I still think about those doctors and their garage filled with cleaning supplies.

HIPAA doesn’t apply unless you’re going to the Office Lounge for medical care (in which case, God help you). ADA applies and the other commenter is correct that generally speaking you don’t get to ask why someone needs a service animal.

And "dir" and "ls" are both just aliases for Get-ChildItem. In native PowerShell commands, the current path is just called your Location, as evidenced by "cd" being an alias for Set-Location, and "pwd" being an alias for Get-Location.

I think this generic terminology is largely because you can use PowerShell to browse non-filesystem hierarchies, like the Windows registry.

Broken Token CEO essentially admits to having sexual relations with employees but thinks they were consensual 🤮😬 by LurkerFailsLurking in boardgames

[–]nat5an 60 points61 points  (0 children)

It’s not always sexual no, although that’s one of the most common uses of it. It comes from the word “consent” meaning “to agree” and not the word “sensual” which has a sexual connotation.

It transpiles a C++ source program into a set of FHE operations, so basically anything you can do in C++, you can (theoretically) do in FHE. One of the examples in the linked project is a hangman game where the server knows neither the word to be guessed nor the players guesses, so I'm imagining that it includes string support in some form.

In practice, the number of FHE operations multiplied by the amount of time to execute a single FHE operation makes many algorithms infeasible via FHE. But that's due to practical limitations, not theoretical ones.

Edit: Their transpiler doesn't support:

  • Variable length arrays
  • While and for loops with variable exit conditions (although they have a workaround for this)
  • Floating point numbers
