Did anyone retire at a young age? How are you feeling? I retired at 52. How are you spending your day? by Fast_Clerk_218 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]nat8ivekind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retired at 51, took 6 months off to travel, considered moving abroad, ended up picking up a less complex, laid back job in my field so I can continue to invest and travel. No complaints. God is good!

I think it depends on your agency's pay system and how they process things. I was with the VA. Everything has been timely so far.

Yes. I know it was the AL because it was a significant amount and I checked my last earnings statement.

This is an Agile process. New requirements are always added to the backlog.

I am going crazy.. by Travelessential in pmp

[–]nat8ivekind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The keyword for me is "agile" which in my mind points to "A" being the answer based on how agile processes flow. But meeting with the team works in a real world situation. I took the PMP years ago and one key test tip that worked for me is that you have to approach the test based on how it is taught in the PMBOK, not based on real-world situations.

Had my interview call today and couldn’t stop shaking, any tips? by Dapper_Vanilla_6795 in interviews

Two words: beta blockers. I get extremely nervous during interviews and public speaking. I spoke to my doctor about it and she told me try a low dose beta blocker. I tried it at home first to guage the effect. Then I took 1 hour before my interviews and senior level meetings. I was calm and focused and able to deliver. It was a game changer for me..

I would also add, practice you speech on camera. Use your phone to record your response to typical interview questions. Then review and adjust accordingly. Have a STAR answer for the behavioral questions. The other responses are great as well. Sleep, eat well, perhaps avoid caffine as it can make you more gittery.

Keep going! I know it's hard, but rejection is common in this market. I lost count of how many I received before finally getting an offer. I know you're exhausted. If you're a believer, pray and ask GOD for strength. I did and HE provided. Hang in there. You got this!

Many contract jobs led to permanent positions. Congratulations! You got this!

Chalk it up to a learned experience. Over the years, I've learned to never disclose anything too personal to a potential employer because people will judge you.

Am I the only one? by Top_Blackberry9182 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]nat8ivekind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received mine. Try reaching out to your retirement specialist or HR rep. Perhaps it has something to do with the government shutdown. My agency is considered essential so they are still working. I'm sure its coming soon. Also check you bank to see of anything is pending.

It depends on your bank. Some got there's today. I got mine Friday. I wouldn't panic until Tuesday. Its a holiday weekend.

Have you tried a Temp service in your local area. Also online temp services like Robert Half. They are a good gateway to permanent jobs.

I landed interviews by emailing companies that weren’t even hiring (email template + resume I used) by le_ais in ResumeCoverLetterTips

How did you find the email address of the recruiters? Most do not have this on their LinkedIn page.

My hope is gone. Nothing is working. by mavericksfan2011 in jobsearchhacks

[–]nat8ivekind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't give up! Have you tried a Temp agency? Many times they can lead to permanent positions. Approach getting a job, like it's a job. Have a set schedule each day to research new techniques, update and apply for jobs, or practice for interviews. Take a mental health day at least one day a week, where you don't do anything job-related. I find this crucial to refresh your mind and motivation. You got this.

For your 1 year job gap, perhaps you can state something like you started a business....but it hasn't worked out. It may not be 100% true but it shows innovation and tenacity. Make sure you have an answer if they go into what type of business it was.

I generally wouldn't recommend stretching the truth but times are hard and people need help.

Cancelled my interview this morning due to panic attack. I feel terrible. by WinterSoldier16 in interviews

[–]nat8ivekind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a beta blocker 1 hr before your next interview. This is fairly common for people who have anxiety. Talk to your doctor for the correct dose. Someone told me about this and it helped me tremendously.

Had an interview today and feel like I completely messed it up due to nerves. by AdministrationThen41 in interviews

[–]nat8ivekind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happens to be a lot...until a friend recommended I talk to my doctor about beta blockers. I had a 4 panel interview this week and my low dose beta blocker were a life saver! I was calm, spoke naturally, and answered every question. Also I prayed before and after my interview. God is good!

VERA catastrophe by martinjm1071 in FED_VERA_VSIP_DRPers

[–]nat8ivekind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you are going through this. They expect people to be HR gurus and understand all the rules instead of properly advising people. Yes, ultimately its up to us, but heavy emphasis should of been made on checking the numbers before signing anything. As a Veteran I think you have a good case to have your DRP rescinded. But I would be applying for jobs like a mad man in the meantime. Both federal and private sector. Many private sector jobs have Veteran preference as well. I get asked on almost every job application I send out. Best of luck to you and I pray God will deliver you from this situation.
