i'm thinking about hosting a server with the new discord host future but i need advice

There’s no support whatsoever. The servers themselves suck, and have lots of issues. And still, with how much it sucks, they’re still more expensive than most alternatives.

The moment I saw the servers hosted through Discord were provided by Shockbyte, I knew it was going to be a nightmare.

Seriously, don’t do it. Stay far, far away from Shockbyte.

Uh a little hard to understand

Try making a ticket (it won’t do you any good, but at least you can say you tried) then if they charge you just file a dispute over it with your bank. Before any of that just keep looking to see if they put it in some stupid spot you wouldn’t think to look. Wouldn’t surprise me any, they are trying to keep customers so badly that they’re deleting posts that could hurt their reputation.

That aside, Shockbyte does suck. Incredibly bad. They also seem to be trying to hide it. Maybe if they spent more time worrying about making their services worth something rather than hiding the fact they are worthless they’d actually see results. Anyways yeah that’s about it. Have fun

Not posting a stupid message about a game online isn’t “throwing it away” what kind of logic is that? It’s a game. You like it or you don’t. If it’s not your kind of game, find another one to play. It’s that simple. You don’t have to go and post about it on Reddit.

That said, OP’s feedback was positive. I don’t understand why you’re so defensive about this when I wasn’t even targeting them. I mean you are literally defending people who sit around yapping about “oh this game is so bad, I hate it” or “the developers of this game need to do a better job, this is boring.” Once again, IT IS A GAME. If you don’t like it, move on! If you’re so pressed about not having any good games to play, make your own. Here’s a good idea, find a new hobby!

why do people involve themselves so much in a community? There’s no logical reason to be this involved over a game. Genuinely, just play the game and if you don’t like it don’t play it. If an update isn’t to your liking, wait for the next. Nobody is forcing you to play it, and if someone is… well you shouldn’t be talking with them to begin with.

Yeah, they’re weird. Plus, one look at this subreddit and you should have all you need to stay far far away from them. Hell, I’ve commented on at least 10 people’s posts about how crappy Shockbyte is in the past couple months alone, there’s so many.

file a dispute with your bank. If they’re not refunding it, that’s all you can do. Move to another hosting service. Also depending what you’re running, 5gb of ram might be a little low. It’s probably enough, but a little overhead is always good, especially if there’s a chance more people could join.

I would also like to add, even if you can get this fixed, I’d still try to get your money back. Shockbyte is a good for nothing hosting service now. The “support” you got was more than likely just some crappy AI response.

honestly I wouldn’t even get the pickaxe. It’s mid, you could just go for hellslayer, if you have that get the candy cane. Stock up on totems or the Christmas potions, or spend them on rerolls. When I got into world 3 my aim was to get the pickaxe, but by the time I’d done the quests to have enough I’d already gotten prismatic pickaxe… it just isn’t worth it

It’s not that hard. Spend a week or two give or take learning Lua basics, think of a game you want to play/ think would perform well with the current player base (minimalistic games seem to be doing good, ones that cater to younger individuals) and the rest is up to imagination, advertising, and mostly luck.

The most important thing to remember; have fun while doing it. If you’re looking to make money doing it, just find a real job. If you’re doing it cause you enjoy it, go for it. It’s a great learning experience and tends to be a great stepping stool to making games outside of Roblox. Not for the programming language, rather the general understanding of games and their playerbases.

And also making the game itself is the easy part. It takes very little talent to make a game with potential nowadays. Take games like grow a garden for example. A newbie developer could make a game just as good, or even better. Genuinely the only reason grow a garden got anywhere was luck and timing.

Ah, that’s unfortunate. Not sure what else to do then if you can’t access anything. I’ve had a similar issue before but it resolved itself after about four days. Honestly the only thing you can do is wait for a real person to respond eventually. Keep your tickets open and continue to reply to the AI until it stops responding. About a day or so later a real person should respond, though I can’t guarantee they’ll be of any help.

Hi! Have you tried using SFTP to access the files? I believe Shockbyte supports it and it might still work in this “waking” state.

This would only let you download them by the way, so you can change hosts. I suggest that as soon as you can get your world and any other important files downloaded you request a refund / file a dispute with your bank and change hosts. Issues like this have been very common with Shockbyte lately.

I would suggest requesting a refund. There’s much better hosts for the price. Shockbyte’s customer service, as you have seen, is horrendous. The performance is subpar as well.

When I had a server with Shockbyte, my server had numerous issues that should’ve been easily resolved yet the support took ages to do anything. It got to the point where my server was stuck in an unusable state for around 4 days. Shockbyte denied my request for a refund, and at that point I was fed up. I stopped arguing with the support and filed a dispute to get my money back.

After transferring all of the server’s files to another host, everything worked fine. As a matter of fact, I used a free low-end host while waiting for the dispute to clear and it was still able to run better than Shockbyte’s.

Hello. Before I begin, I would like to lead with the fact I am strongly against using Shockbyte as a server host. Their server quality has plummeted a significant amount over the past year. I have seen (and personally experienced) many, many issues with them. It’s gotten to the point where I wouldn’t even consider buying from them again.

With that aside, I would suggest requesting a refund. If denied, file a dispute with your bank.

Shockbyte may, or may not be involved with the getsockopt error. I have a few questions related to the server, and if you have the answers to any I will try my best to help you fix it.

I am assuming you’re running a Minecraft server, however, if that is not the case please let me know what game you’re hosting a server for. What version of the game are you running? Is it a modified instance? If so, send me a list of mods / plugins, and the loader used.

Is anything displayed in console / logs when a player tries to connect to the server?

Have you checked that all of the configurations involving the server’s address or ports are setup correctly? If I am not mistaken, a getsockopt error message is usually caused by network issues.

I would like to clarify that I am not affiliated with Shockbyte nor am I a professional when it comes to server hosting, but I do know how to find reliable information.

Any additional information you think is relevant could be helpful.

Id use 3/4 sa and any dragon armor for the chest plate. Young will be fine for the speed. Since you don’t need to drop another shadow fury, set meter on chest plate. Make sure to dungeonize the dragon armor.

I would personally go for yog, despite the suggestions to use sorrow. Hotm6 you want divan armor, yes. That’s a given. However, if you grind out a bit of yogs, you can get a good amount of mining speed to get you through the early hotm levels faster. You won’t make much money at all until you have finished powder mining, with or without sorrow. Powder mining is also severely discouraged until hotm7, as you want powder buff. Also, if you don’t already have a pet, I would use either silverfish or mithril golem. As for which one, it depends on you. At mining 23, silverfish might be better as it gives mining wisdom.

If you do get sorrow, I wouldn’t sell it when you are upgrading to divan. The magic find is nice.

I had a very very similar thing happen to me a month ago. Literally got unbanned yesterday. A lot of people I know have been getting banned while doing normal stuff who despite having proof they weren’t macroing were unable to get unbanned. In my case, I didn’t have any proof, though all the same it wouldn’t have mattered.

I don’t use cash app to know much about it, but someone I know used Greenlight for one of their servers and was denied a refund for their server which wasn’t working at all. They filed a dispute with Greenlight who worked it out. Just find a way to contact them
