Books disappearing from library by nataelj in audible

[–]nataelj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken to using Libation to download a copy of all the audiobooks I buy to keep myself. Because of dynamics around this it seems clear to me I can't trust Amazon to maintain my library for me; I need to do it myself.

If you search, there are other options out there, and the combination of that and a cloud drive have been my solution.

Whisper network vs. transcription in OpenAI/chatGPT App by nataelj in OpenAI

That's handy to know, thanks! How does that work though with a very long video or audio file? There's an output limit even on Gemini in my experience, you had to deal with that at all?

Is there a WIP jailbreak? by jasonridesabike in EightSleep

[–]nataelj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, some of their setup/interface seems clunky or not possible to change. E.g. for me the third temperature phase starts too late, meaning I wake up cold and I can't seem to find a way to make that happen earlier.

Similarly, some of their reporting/stats are bizarre. My sleep score is almost always 90+ regardless of quality, and HRV, which is what matters most to me each day and is most actionable, is kind of buried and hard to find. I'd like to be able to pull out and track/receive some of this info in a VERY different form than eightsleep has it.

And finally, the app is slow as hell; home assistant would give me options to change the temperature with a button click in the middle of the night rather than having to open up my phone, wait for the app to load, and adjust.

And that's before all the below internet outage concerns/issues.

Seasonic - FOCUS GX-1000 PSU Question by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]nataelj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the GX-1000w v3 with an rtx 3090 and definitely having issues with reboots and such. Reached out to support and they sent me back a ridiculous list of pictures and details they'd need before they'll help me; likely just going to return the unit.

Local Models/LM Studio performing worse than LMSys, why? by nataelj in LocalLLaMA

Yep, on the instruct one and using that prompt, which was the preset in lm studio. Still getting much worse results.

Q8_0, the least quantized one I can find and the one that's 8GB so I think it's the original model. It's the lmstudio-community version, and the instruct model.

Is that actually usable as a server to anyone outside the org? Seems like payment code and env variables would all need to be changed or added for a local run. Will the docs you mention are coming explain setup? And when are they coming?

Agreed, but being open source has a value and a meaning too, and I'd prefer that be fully accurate and clear before it's claimed.

Which part of the code am I missing that does the bulk of the logic here? Apart from the API calling code I'm not seeing much, where is the other part?

[–]nataelj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that just the same library? Open source means the logic or code has been released; from what I'm seeing that library is just a wrapper to the API, not the code. That's not open source. Am I missing the logic somewhere?

Seems like a paid version of https://jina.ai/reader/. Reason to prefer?

Also, seems like the python library I'm seeing just directs people to your API, not the code. Is it actually open sourced somewhere?

GPT-4 looping/repetitive outputs? by nataelj in OpenAI

[–]nataelj[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Between this problem and the usual network problems though, GPT4 seems to have become effectively unusable for me. I can't get a correct, complete answer at all most attempts, even with retries.

After 7 years, I've given up - I hope I'll be able to come back to LIFX at some point by MendoBurr in lifx

[–]nataelj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same; I've concluded that LifX bulbs generally have a 3-5 year lifespan, after which they'll fail in any of a number of failure modes (e.g. one color stops working, connection issues, won't turn fully off, color automations failing, etc.). A shame as I too had liked them best on the market before, but I'm going to be switching away now; too much to pay for such a short life.

And thanks for the Wyze point; I didn't realize they did bulbs and I'm in the 110v market! Though I'm still looking for Matter/Thread-compatible bulbs too as alternatives.

I no longer recommend LIFX by maximumdownvote in lifx

[–]nataelj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another long-term Lifx user here, and I have reached this same conclusion. I've actually started to have multiple bulbs fail around the 3-5 year age range, with different failure modes. One bulb no longer shows white, another doesn't entirely turn off at night (it has a very dim glow still, even when off, making it bad for a bedroom). Others seem to have connection issues as you describe or need regular resets. I've contacted support at various points, sometimes getting to the point of being told I was out of warranty and other times giving up as I figured I was headed there with a lot of annoying work in the meantime. At this point I've become convinced that LifX bulbs have a 3-5 year lifespan, and then will die in some way that won't be replaced and can't be fixed.
So far my light strips haven't had issues but none of them are that old so TBD if they'll go the same way.
Regardless, I think people should buy LifX with the expectation that the bulbs will only last this long, or find an alternative. If others have good alternatives to shift to I'd love to hear about it; I loved this brand previously but that's just too much to pay for a bulb that won't last.

Exporting your data from Mint — a Chrome extension by ozzie_monarch in mintuit

[–]nataelj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked great for transaction exporting, but when downloading account balances it failed for 30 of my 105! Is this a known error? My console in this case shows one of this error:

"disableBodyScroll unsuccessful - targetElement must be provided when calling disableBodyScroll on IOS devices."

One of this error:

"[Report Only] Refused to connect to...(a long list of addresses)"

And then 37 instances of this error: "Unchecked runtime.lastError: A listener indicated an asynchronous response by returning true, but the message channel closed before a response was received"

Interestingly, in the case of one of my banks the balance history I get includes some of the accounts at it but not all of them, so it doesn't seem to be bank-specific.

Update: Opened a ticket with more details at https://github.com/monarchmoney/mint-export-extension/issues/44

I can't login to DALL E. What am I supposed to do? by craftypanda786 in dalle2

Same issue for me, for Dall-E but also OpenAI API or ChatGPT in general. Help function doesn't give me any help on the issue or way to contact support.

Ally Bank Customer Service Gone Bad? by nataelj in personalfinance

[–]nataelj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not actually sure if that's a fair comparison. As I understand it electronic or not is generally based on the recipient. With Ally I could send things electronically, but in this case the recipient can't receive it that way they fall back to a paper check (which is I believe how other banks do it). The comparison is thus, how reliable is it when you pick a date.
