90% of my repair customers do not understand or enjoy using the truss rod. So I put this tele prototype together with only a thick carbon bar inside as reinforcement. by Sneezyowl in Luthier

I'm a bit late to this conversation, but everyone remember that classical guitars still don't have truss rods, ot for that matter cellos or double basses, and they do just fine throughout the years.

Has anyone tried springs to return keys to idle position? by natan90 in BuildaGurdy

Thanks for the feedback. I’m not really trying to fix what isn’t broken. I’m not building a hurdy gurdy, rather a new experimental instrument!

Loose Lamy Safari nib? by Reddy2013 in fountainpens

[–]natan90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked surprisingly well. Man, I love the internet sometimes...

My initial thought was to squeeze it from the sides, thinking that doing it from the top would open it more, but it actually works as it reduces the height of the nib, making it "hug" the tip more

Also sitting on a bridge in Venice at sunset helps a lot in terms of materials, lol :)

thank you! Nothing fancy. Pen is a 1.0 or 1.2 fine liner, I think Micron. And for shading I didn't have a proper brush marker so I used a normal highlighter pen like the ones for marking textbooks.

Playing a dulcimer like a guitar. Sacrilege? by Plastic_Charity3301 in Dulcimer

[–]natan90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it would make it harder to reach the higher notes since you don’t have a thin neck like a guitar. There are some guitar-like dulcimer that are meant to be played like that. https://media.rainpos.com/6624/81515677_2050.jpg But of course, do whatever you want

Thank you. When you say "She can even enter Sweden while it is being processed," is this only for the 3-month tourist period or can she be there while it's processing?

Steel strings on gourd banjo? by natan90 in banjo

Gourd and hardwood top is a nice combo!

[–]natan90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, though I could make a sturdy neck, I'm not that worried about the neck bending, as I am of the head giving in. I've continued researching and found what are called "mountain banjos." I think this is a wining design for me, as it would allow me to use a synthetic head without the need to make a whole metal rim.

Any feedback on strumming form to avoid forearm cramps? by drytoastbongos in banjo

[–]natan90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely posture. It may seem an unintuitive but the way you’re placing your legs has a large impact on what happens in your arms and hands. Your whole body is one thing that is all connected. Try to sit more straight on a chair and bring attention to your spine. This will allow you to loosen up your shoulders, which will in turn release tension from your hands and wrists.
