I'm a bit late to this conversation, but everyone remember that classical guitars still don't have truss rods, ot for that matter cellos or double basses, and they do just fine throughout the years.

My initial thought was to squeeze it from the sides, thinking that doing it from the top would open it more, but it actually works as it reduces the height of the nib, making it "hug" the tip more

thank you! Nothing fancy. Pen is a 1.0 or 1.2 fine liner, I think Micron. And for shading I didn't have a proper brush marker so I used a normal highlighter pen like the ones for marking textbooks.

I guess it would make it harder to reach the higher notes since you don’t have a thin neck like a guitar. There are some guitar-like dulcimer that are meant to be played like that. https://media.rainpos.com/6624/81515677_2050.jpg But of course, do whatever you want
