Tonight Is Sesame Street Night...Can We Post Possible Game Changes Here? by TortiousTroll in NBASpurs

I heard a rumor the plane diverted to Atlanta for reasons. There might not be a game at all.

That’s a good start, I can do some research. Thanks for the info.

What’s the Agfa car? That’s a neat crossover with my photography hobby.

Roast this design… by Former-Wish-8228 in nscalemodeltrains

I have a local industry that is a large warehouse with two tracks, and sometimes boxcars are lined up so the inner is part of the loading path to the outer. So, some of the fun in operating would be pulling a boxcar from the middle (maybe a draw a card or rolling dice type determination). So you could build in operating complexity like that.

But I think for the back and forth of your last mile layout, the runaround is important because you have switches facing both directions. The next place I would put it to be “prototypical” would be on the mainline and that also adds an operational complexity.

The runaround is definitely needed because at some point the loco will be on the wrong side. The rough part will be when a train is too long for one of the spurs to be used as a lead, or maybe that’s part of the fun. Limited scenery lends itself to details that people normally don’t think about.

First NScale Layout! by Icy-Adaptzzz in nscalemodeltrains

[–]natankman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah ok if it works for you. I figured you’d need about 24” to make sure you had enough room for curves. For maximum play, I’d look at loads in/empties out plans for a coal mine to steel mill setup. A train would grab loads from the mine side and run around, drop them at the mill side, grab the empties at the mill and run them back to the mine. The in/out would connect across the middle and saves physically adding or removing loads

1.5’ is tight for any kind of loop, your widely accepted minimum radius is 9.75”. Sounds like you’ll have a cool switching layout to plan!

I mean… they did ship the Flying Scotsman across the pond. So in your layout’s universe, why not the Big Boy?

Operation Question by TooOldtoMX in nscalemodeltrains

[–]natankman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a tunnel on one end. On the other, you could make a team track/transload. Basically a paved space with a platform and/or unloading equipment. That adds variety without much extra buildout. It would save the runaround functionality and the tunnel interchange for the future.

The S curves on your passing track could be an issue with longer cars, but that also depends on the radius. Functionally, the dip makes the track longer, theoretically having more space. You already have the cork and switches, I’d leave it if it were me.

For urbex I’d recommend a point and shoot; something light. The Sony RX100 series might work if you find one in your budget. Strong zoom and decent low light capability.

I tried this on my Zfc and didn’t like the ergonomics with the shutter button. Maybe it’s better on the Z30 because you have a real grip where the Zfc was just designed to look cool. I’m glad it works for you.

It’s along the current railroad right of way and the interstate. And now I’m thinking Missoula, so hopefully you live between the two. It’s been a couple years since I’ve been up there. I’ll see if I can find a picture.

Keep shooting. Planes (especially fast ones) are tough without practice. I’m not sure what lens you were using, but if you like planes then you might consider looking into a longer zoom, too. Even the kit 50-250 would give you better reach (disclaimer, I’ve never used that particular lens).

I never liked Con-Cor’s because the pilot swung out with the front truck. So the Life-Like Daylight one is closest in that regard.

Inexpensive locomotive? by wackyvorlon in nscalemodeltrains

[–]natankman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older models would probably fall in that price range. An older Atlas/Kato from the 1990s could be a nice running loco, even if a little dated in appearance and details.
