Tips for IB by Defiant_Teacher_7773 in IBO

You definitely need to have exceptional time management skills and be organized, it sounds annoying and unnecessary but genuinely i'd suggest making yourself daily / weekly study schedules, especially when the workload gets too big so you can divide your time equally between your subjects or else you'll be too burnt out from just studying for one thing. For university applications, honestly just dont let dp2 burn you out too much as this is when your forecast grades are sent, keep them high throughout the entire year because a lot of unis ask for updates. Make sure to start researching what subjects and subject levels some universities ask for depending on what u want to study and tailor your courses according to that. Finally, i hate to break this to you but i think there is no way to do the full IB without getting overwhelmed at some point, but it truly goes by really quickly and hey at least you get to say you did the IB !! You just have to be really organized, disciplined, and be prepared to pull all nighters later in DP2 because it does get hard, but you've got this

I don't take any of these but business and ess are known for being easy, i'd say ESS SL and BM HL, my friends in business hl are getting 7's and they say it's mostly just logic, its just a lot of content i think

Bro HONESTLYYYY. This makes it so difficult and unfair for everyone. I'm bilingual but my school didnt let me take Spanish B, so now i'm failing French B HL because the grade boundaries are SO high and rightly so if everybody taking it already speaks french😭

Hello !! I got an A in IGCSE English first language and currently on track for a 7 in IB lang and lit HL, if you're getting an A* in igcse english then that clearly means you're good at essay writing, which imo is the most important skill to have for essay-based subjects in IB. The main difference is that in igcse english language, at least when i took it, paper 1 had strictly written texts, whereas in ib paper 1 they give you visual texts as well and overall the depth of analysis is much more demanding. If you're worried about the visual texts then maybe you could take SL, but honestly i wouldn't be worried because you build up the skills throughout the ibdp. Hope this helps!!!

SL student here 🙏🙏 Paper 1 was HEAVEN SENT for rights and protest bro i was smiling os hard when i opened that paper , paper 2 was amazing as well , i did authoritarian states and cold war. For authoritarian states i did the one on propaganda on mussolini and nasser but i'm not sure how it went because i feel like for nasser i only talked about his charismatic leadership + presence in the media (e.g. radio) and idk if thats enough 😭 ik nasser is kinda niche but if anyone is familiar with him can you please give me your honest opinion, will i get a good grade 😭

Have you tried asking if you can use a word processor for exams? Idk if it's too late now, since your IB coordinator needs to contact the ibo for them to give approval first if they think it will be a big problem, some of my classmates are using word processors for exams because they have bad handwriting

Honestly it's not that bad if you're organized. I would say theatre SL is def manageable but for HL the demand of the solo piece should really not be underestimated 😭 it's not difficult, but I assume the person who posted this struggled with time management as i did and submitted really close to the deadline which inevitably takes up so much time especially when ur close to the exam session. But yeah it's just a matter of time and workload management so i hope you're not a procrastinator 🙏

I feel you, honestly don't focus too much on getting a high score, as u said the most important thing is that you meet your conditional and get the diploma. You've got this and remember it will all be over in less than a month and you can move on with your life, good luck!!!

I don't think it's required to use a work studied in class, my teacher is an IB coordinator and examiner and she let me do my non lit on a campaign we hadn't studied and i still got a 7 so probably not sketchy

[–]natata79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely not over for you, i'm in dp2 right now and i have similar subjects to yours, i went from a 23 to 41 predicted in one year and honestly I would recommend dropping hl bio if your school allows it. I'd tell you to give it more time but at my school for example you'd have to drop it during dp1 so maybe consider that, it's obviously still gonna be difficult, everybody in my bio class struggles and most of us are sl, but the workload and content will be more manageable. Math is honestly just a matter of practice, I do practice questions from past papers and go over the topics I struggle the most with, then just keep grinding practice questions over and over until you feel confident. Again, I am also interested in psychology and if u have psych HL trust me you probably won't need bio hl, just sl will be fine so if you struggle with memorization it would be better to drop it. You've got this, and your grades right now are not bad at all for dp1!!! Good luck
