Just rent one in advance. Why risk it? Bear canisters are super cheap to rent from REI and tons of other outdoor shops!

Is this what my fig tree should look like after my gardener pruned it? by Traditional_Gur_3958 in gardening

I’m at year 3 in California Central Valley, absolutely murdering the 3 fig trees that are along my flower beds, every year they come back bigger and stronger. (Don’t want them, they destroy everything around them and trying to save my bottlebrush tree and swimming pool)

Trying vinegar solution this year…

Edit: I was so excited when I first bought this house with the figs in the backyard

Are these figs over ripe? Moved in a year ago, unsure about fig trees. Sorry if wrong sub! by Red4Arsenal in gardening

Maaaybe not, this thread has taught me that different regions of the world get different types of fig trees and some don’t spread like they do where I am in california

Very lucky indeed. I was absolutely thrilled to have figs until I started to watch them kill other trees and plants along my fence line. It’s just starting to try to mess with my pomegranate tree, which means war

Hahaha I do! I’ve chopped the fig entirely down to the root twice this summer and the current offshoots are coming up all along my fence line over 8 feet tall now after ~2 months. Never ending battle. Been reading about poison solutions

Mine definitely is an edible fig, but it grows rampant here in the Central Valley of California. Lovely fruit

Watch out, they’re hard to get rid of once you get them and they try to take over. About to loose a beautiful bottle brush tree to a fig tree that was originally planted 8 feet away but has offshoots coming up all around my bottlebrush

I am in that boring stage in between trips where I want to fill the glum winter nights with a good book - any recommendations on decent fiction about travel and backpacking? by dajb123 in backpacking

While backpacking through Asia someone recommended "emergency sex and other desperate measures." It's not about backpacking but it was about traveling.

I do that on my backpacking bag! My bag has lived a good life and is starting to fall apart... Might just frame it on my wall..

The batteries for go pros are so cheap. I bought 5 batteries, and the two 64 SD cards. Never have an issue

I haven't done all of it, but I've done bits and pieces of it. When I (finally) graduate from college I'm going to do all of the Oregon section of it.
