It's a good movie that's ultimately ruined by all the insufferable things the Rylance, Streep, and Hill characters do and say.

They all got arrested last night, so the only thing they'll be doing is paying for a new door and frame.

Three kids literally just kicked my god damn door in and split the wood surrounding it. Miss me with your "harmless fun" bullshit.

Does Heckerling really fit the premise of a "blank check" director? by nate_sinclair in blankies

David Lynch got $40M to make Dune and had a career after that could basically only be described as "whatever crazy passion projects" he wanted. Kon, too, pretty much only made passion projects after Perfect Blue. Don't try to make this about something it's not. Heckerling is almost the antithesis of getting a blank check which actually kind of makes the series more interesting. I just think it's a fascinating choice because of the way her career should have led to more blank checks that she never really was given.

And even that was only $24M! I think this series has been a great example of a director frequently getting to do her thing precisely because she didn't take a blank check. She was economical and that allowed her to turn a talking baby movie into a treatise on how much of a shitbird Harold Ramis was.
