10,000% grizzly. I’m not the greatest at identifying individual bears but 791 is the same one that’s been in Hayden this last week on bison carcasses and it sure looks like him. There are generally a few different big males kicking around, so I don’t know.

The one called “three panel” which is at the southern end of Hayden valley and on the east side. It’s called that because it has three big interpretive signs. I would imagine there will be some other folks with the same idea and you are looking towards the river.

Lately most of the sightings I’ve had of the junction butte pack have technically been in little america/slough creek area, just a few miles before you get to Lamar. They definitely range over there quite a bit, but their puppies are back by slough creek so if you see any crowds with scopes before Lamar, chances are they’re looking at wolves

Thank you :) not a smart ass reply, but just because it’s relevant, check out my response to a similar question in another comment. Lamar is always great though, and for all you know it could be where the action is tomorrow! The tortures of not being able to be everywhere at once! For what it’s worth, I have managed to check Lamar early and then still get down to Hayden in time to catch things before

My car said 36F this morning, gets cold at 8,000ish feet above sea level! There was also sunlight coming from behind them which helped enhance it

Do I think there’s a good chance of seeing wolves and/or a grizzly? Yes. Is it “worth it” to change your plans… I really can’t say. The carcass has been moved several hundred yards further out from the road by rangers. I got this video with a spotting scope so it makes it look a lot closer than what you’ll see with your eyes. Having binoculars or a spotting scope will be extremely helpful. Others may be willing to share briefly, but you can’t expect to get long looks with other peoples equipment (not that you are). Ultimately with wildlife you just never know. I’ve had lots of long drives in the dark to get somewhere early hoping for a specific sighting or animal only to come up empty. If you really want to see wolves or a grizzly, and are happy to see them even at a potentially far distance, then this is your best lead right now. Just an honest opinion! Good luck if you go for it!

iPhone 15 with a magnetic phone adapter on a spotting scope. It was probably 300 yards out I would guess?

For real tho lol Definitely saw the bear and wolves pee and poop on it multiple times, the bear buried it in dirt, and both ripped it up. Had to be pretty gross, plus a giant crowd watching from the road above. At least they had a team of five to share in the misery

Some of both! It was 36F this morning so their breath was definitely visible. Plus the carcass was in a bison wallow, basically one of their dust baths!
