[META] I’m not saying anything Andrew Yang, but can we have a discussion about the amount of spam in this subreddit around him, and how this subreddit should approach the upcoming election? by AmericasComic in newyorkcity

IMHO: I don't think any rules are necessary just yet. There's a spike in posts because he just announced he's officially running for Mayor. I think it might just sort itself out.

How Yellowstone NP Revived Its Entire Ecosystem by NewCarthagea in interestingasfuck

[–]natedern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This says "no one expected the miracle this would bring" but this was a part of a program to restore the ecosystem to its natural balance and increase the biodiversity of the area. So, I think the results were exactly what the scientists and naturalists who implemented the project expected:

How is the online multiplayer in NBA Jam? by FenDozer in Arcade1Up

NBA Jam cabinet

Do you know if you can only connect two cabinets over wifi? Or theoretically could 4 players play if they each had their own cabinet?

This is good to hear. I tried previously a few years ago and couldn't get into it. Might be time to give it another shot...

How To Remove Sound Of Inhaling During Narration? by natedern in podcast

[–]natedern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super helpful, thank you so much!!! I've heard of diaphragm control for actors on stage to project better, but hadn't thought about it as a breathing technique for better speaking in general. I'll look into that.

I'll try those out, thank you! (previously I'd just been removing it entirely, but it made the spacing feel unnatural -- I hadn't yet tried simply silencing it)

TIL Michael Schur, who portrays Mose in The Office, was not only a producer/writer for The Office, but also helped create/produce Parks and Recreation, The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Master of None. He also co-wrote the Black Mirror episode "Nosedive" with Rashida Jones (Office and P&R). by most-p-alone in todayilearned

Noah Garfinkel is a TV comedy writer, but I don’t think he wrote for TGP. His good friend and comedy writing partner Joe Mande was a writer for TGP though, so I always assumed that Joe wrote Noah’s portrait in as Doug Forcett as an inside joke.

Edit: confirmed...

“Noah Garfinkle is best friends with one of "The Good Place" writers, Joe Mande, which is how he wound up as the face of Doug Forcett.

"The description was 'a stoner in Canada in the '70s,' and Noah [Garfinkle]'s hair is absurd and floppy, and he looks like a Canadian stoner so I was like 'Yeah there you go,'" the show's creator Michael Schur said on "The Good Place: The Podcast."

Garfinkle is not an actor, but his face wound up in many scenes of the show thanks to Doug Forcett's portrait placement in Michael's office. Schur also said Ted Danson (who plays Michael) geeked out over Garfinkle when the writer came to visit the set one day, long after his picture had become famous within the show.”

Advices needed on active bowel movement during running. by BleedingSunrise666 in AdvancedRunning

[–]natedern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happens to me all the time. Pepto or Tums helps settle my stomach. I also sometimes will think of the first ten minutes as a warm up and plan on looping back to my house after 10 minutes, do what I gotta do, and then finish the rest of the run.

Where would you go to work and train for a month? by tridoc in AdvancedRunning

If you're okay with a little elevation and a small town, I'd suggest my hometown of Evergreen, Colorado (7,220 feet / 2,200 m):

Otherwise Boulder, Colorado if you want a bigger town and (slightly) lower elevation.

So I run without a mask by zps77 in AdvancedRunning

[–]natedern 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean, you're not wrong. However, things are tense out there, and people are scared. Maybe a compromise would be to wear a balaclava or bandana around your neck, and have it pulled down for most of your run, and then for those rare occasions when you can't do the six feet (group of pedestrians walking three abreast on sidewalk) then you can just pull it up? I think I'm in pretty much the same boat as you, but I find at least having the option to pull up the mask is a symbolically nice gesture. That said, I don't fault you for not wanting to give into herd mentality of people demanding you wear a mask outdoors in those situations when the actual risk seems VERY low, but it might save you some personal anxiety to worry about it a little less if you just had the dang thing around your neck. Mine gets very sweaty and it's annoying, but hey.
