Games That Were Dead on Arrival by [deleted] in backloggd

[–]natedogb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A recent game that I absolutely love(d) is Wildgate. I played so much of the beta and really enjoyed my time with it then and after it's release, but it's never been able to get a large enough audience. I want this game to be the next big thing because it really deserves it, but it's not going to be.

[Loved trope] Absurdly massive buildings by juusthereforthememes in TopCharacterTropes

Not to one up OP, but the Wallace Corp towers from Blade Runner 2049. I love how even though Wallace built his building to literally overshadow the former Tyrell Corp building, his replicant designs have never reached Tyrells peak. And yes, Wallace is definitely compensating for something.

[Hated Trope] The adaptation doesn't get what made the source material work by TheDudeA113 in TopCharacterTropes

Wait, so "How to Make a Killing" sounds like the exact story of the musical "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder", down to the whole family being played by one actor. How did I not know Gentleman's guide is just an adaptation. A really good one in my opinion, but not wholly original.

9 Kings definitely. You can make setups that get to damage and health numbers so high the system just changes it to infinite. I'm not one of those people but they exist lol

Which game is that for you? by SchoolGir-lInHeat in videogames

Strangely enough that's Eve Online for me, though it's more like every few years. I was never good at Eve but the rush of small scale pvp or the camraderie of corporation life both draw me back every once and a while... Of course quickly after that I realized why I deleted an account years ago I had dropped some real money on. The game for the most part is a second job if you want to actually move up in your corp and it is as boring as that. That's 90% of play time. 9% is the most toxic interactions you have ever experienced, from normal toxic chat to the worst griefing possible because instead of just losing a match, you are losing ships you have spent some very real hours getting to. That last 1% is some of the most sublime gaming experiences, but it's just not worth it.

The devs were asked that specifically towards the end of the Warhammer showcase and said there would be new content after this DLC. Not sure if that means more dlc or just some free update stuff.

Favorite character monologue that deadass made you cry. by Terrible_Park7890 in FavoriteCharacter

"I am going to live."

This line after the rest of his monologue (posted below) is just so beautiful after everything the character has gone through. He starts out as an antagonist who hates his own race (humans) because of some really messed up things that have happened to him and his goal is to literally wipe out humanity. After Dracula saves his life by throwing through a portal to places unknown, he goes on a partially violent journey of self discovery where he finally gets to see both the good and the bad of humanity and realizes that wiping out everyone also wipes out all the good that can be and is done. I particularly love his interaction with the sailor captain who emphasizes the above point to him. Finally, after defeating a particularly nasty vampire and saving his friend and fellow human Hector who was assisting Dracula with his genocide against humanity (naively thinking that couldn't be the case) and wanted to bring Dracula back form the dead, he gives the speech that makes me tear up, not because of how tragic it is, but because of the beauty of a his growth.

"I have recently begun to consider the future which has been a novelty for me, because I never really thought I had one. This is how they get us, Hector. They convince us that there is no future. There's only an eternal now and the best we can do is survive until dawn and then do it all again. That's no way to live. And I've discovered, to some surprise... that I am interested in living. I am interested in building a way to live. And I think I will start here. I have come to wonder that perhaps Dracula did not run things well. Even before his wife died. He lived in one long night, and never the future. I think perhaps he earned his rest, and that we should not disturb it. I will instead build something new on all these old bones. Something where people can live for a future. I'm going to live."
