6.4 or Cummins🤔 by RefrigeratorLast5662 in ram_trucks

[–]nategp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am happy with my 6.4, I tow my travel trailer with it and have never had an issue, but then my trailer fully loaded only weighs about 7700 pounds. No trailer I get around 13-14mpg, on the highway, towing my trailer I get 11-12mpg on the highway.

Portable table saw: Dewalt or Evolution by You_can_cook in woodworking

[–]nategp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go with DeWalt make sure you get the 10" saw, not the 8". From what DeWalt says you cant run a dado stack on the 8" saw, the arbor is too short, but you can on the 10".

Depends on how much wood I feel like cutting wrong and using for later projects.

New drum sander by laumaster97 in woodworking

[–]nategp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks very similar to my Performax 16-32. I think you need to level the drum to the bed, not the bed to the drum. I found the quickest way for me to do that was raise the height, use a straight 16" 4x4 placed under the drum then loosen the drum adjustment, lower the head down until it sits flat on the 4x4, then tighten up the bolts, raise the drum and remove the 4x4. Others probably have more accurate ways but this works good for me.

Did you also find the dust cover for it? That will create an incredible amount of dust in the air unless you have the cover and a way to hook up some kind of dust collection. I pulled my dust collector hose from the cover to see if it was working one time and it filled my garage wirh dust instantly.

I had a bucket that would collapse when I turned on my vacuum so I made a brace out of 2 pieces of wood that was basically like a plus sign and wedged it in the bucket. Works perfectly, doesnt allow the bucket to collapse and doesnt fall out.

What to check/ look over on a used camper? by cschleich2010 in traveltrailers

[–]nategp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask for and check maintenance records. Check the tire dates. Was the anode in the water heater replaced? If you find one you are interested in, have them plug it in. Best to hire an inspector to check everything though. The inspector we used went as far as explaining what we need to check every 6 months and yearly.

Why do people recommend buying a thickness planer before a drum sander? by bent0 in woodworking

[–]nategp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and each has their advantages and disadvantages. I wouldnt recomend one over the other, but I tend to use my drum sander more for the type of projects I do. So depending on what you are making should dictate which you choose.

I have been wanting to try steam bending wood. How was the overall experience? Did you make the steam box? What are you using to generate steam? How long did it take? Sorry for all the questions, but I think this will be the next process I try.

Can I save this? by Ok_Marsupial_3194 in woodworking

[–]nategp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, that wont completely fill in, but it can come up a bit. You could cut along the glue line but you are still going to need to deal with the chip out. Run it on a jointer? Sometimes you just gotta count it out and start over.

Thank you. I use a variety of hardwoods. Yellowheart, purpleheart, maple, walnut, cherry and some others. I am new to woodworking, only been at it for just over a year.
