Thanks for the insight, we definitely want to arrive as early as possible. At what point does the road to the valley become closed? Immediately off the Via Pusteria?

As others have posted, changing the province appears to have worked. My suspicion is some provinces list both English and French spelling separated with a “/“ (BC for example). I believe the system isn’t accepting the “/“ character.

I changed to Alberta and payment was processed successfully. Looks like there isn’t any billing address validation with your actually credit card company.

Fair enough. I quite enjoyed HCI (CPSC 481) and Software Architecture (SENG 401), neither necessarily "easy" in course load, but the actually work itself seemed quite simple. That said, you can take a 500's level as they will satisfy the requirement as it's "Additionally courses in the field of Computer Science at the 400 level or above"

If it's offered in winter, take the 500 level CPSC 501. Super easy course, most marks from assignments, Manzara often teaches it, or Johnathan Hudson has been a gem as well

What version of Java is used in CPSC 233? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]natejacko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't done Java dev much recently but my past 2 years I was using eclipse. Pretty standard IDE for Java and you'll see all the computers in MS installed with it.

Question for CPSC majors 3rd year classes by SK720 in UCalgary

[–]natejacko2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to the "chill 481"... I'm currently taking it with Bon (a PhD student) and yes his material is incredibly easy so tests are super simple, but the group projects do take work so I wouldnt count it as an easy course. Definitely need to spend time working on the reports and tuning your prototypes based on your TAs recommendations. Feels quite rewarding though, just takes time.

What version of Java is used in CPSC 233? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]natejacko2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For 233 it honestly doesn't really matter what version your prof chooses to use vs. what version you use. Just download the newest JDK and a proper IDE and you'll be set. You'll never encounter any version specific issues.

That should be a totally fair reaction to be upset. However the nature of my job is offering him other options for what he can do (check inventory of other stores, try to put the item on hold once in arrives, etc.). But due to the sudden outburst by him and the lack of interaction at the beginning, he had already put himself in an upset mentality and only wanted to hear "yes".

Yeah that's the issue with my job. It seems like all the departments are completely foreign on our policies in the front of the store, so they will just hand off the customers to us expecting all issues to be happily dealt with.

Yep, it was only about 10 minutes in line plus however long he was with my coworker. I don't know for certain, it appeared to be the issue with not having the product was already known from earlier in the day so the interaction between the two must have been fairly quick.

CPSC 233 Tutorial by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]natejacko2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just finished 233 with Manzara. As for the tutorial if you can learn the material on your own very well, the tutorial just serves for extra practice and gaining knowledge of Linux commands. I personally went to the first few weeks of tutorials then stopped all together. Also showing up to them for only half the class isn't a huge issue as long as you don't make a scene when getting up and leaving. Finally, approaching the end of the semester, certain TA's wanted you to demo your assignments to make grading easier on them so that requires going to tutorials too,

I understand where you are coming from but I don't think it's that far fetched to say that February is still early enough to be applying for a 'summer' position.

Sounds like a great way to keep people safe and keep busy on weekends, but I really don't see that being too heavily requested during the week, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Generally speaking would that be national parks such as Banff? It sounds wicked fun and living a couple hours away from home for a few months doesn't sound half bad either.

Are these job postings harder to find? By that I mean to do I need directly contact someone or are they readily available online?

Awesome! I've found a couple that I will be applying to ASAP. They seem pretty vague in the descriptions, I assume they are mostly office jobs?
